We can't afford higher transportation costs and the associated inflation associated with that (unlike more densely populated states). We also will take a disproportional hit on the cost of heating our homes and businesses. This is unacceptable as an outcome but clearly what these proposals will make happen. |

Transportation pollution contributes to unhealthy air pollution days and a growing public health risk due to our changing climate. By supporting ambitious and achievable regional transportation policy solutions, we can invest in cleaner technologies and support a healthier future. |

This effort in wealth redistribution is a ploy without determining any substantial benefit in lowering carbon emissions from the transportation sector. US energy policy has already shown significant reductions in CO2 from increased use of natural gas, allowing the US to be a world leader in CO2 reduction. Temperature data from the US Climate Reference Network (USCRN) has demonstrated a reduction in temperature since 2005 with any recent increases in CO2 levels, thereby disproving any correlation between temperature and CO2 levels. The TCI program has not demonstrated it would have any beneficial impact on temperature. As a part of a global community, any US actions (which have shown a reduction in CO2 generation) are outweighed by other nations (e.g. China, India) that will continue to develop their economies and CO2 emissions. |

The plan that states are developing can reduce pollution, expand public transportation, encourage use of electric cars, trucks and buses, and develop safe ways for people to walk and bike in small towns and rural areas through a clean transportation fund. We know this approach works because over the past 10 years, Northeastern states have done the same thing with the electric sector through RGGI. We created jobs, grew our economy, and reduced our pollution. Now, we have the same opportunity with TCI. The Maine Public Health Association supports this effort because Maine people deserve safe, clean, equitable, modern transportation solutions that are affordable, reliable, and reduce air pollution. |

Thank you for helping to design a regional policy to limit climate pollution from motor fuels and invest in a modern, clean, transportation future. The evidence is clear: the more we limit pollution from motor fuels, the more jobs are created, the more the economy grows, and the more lives we save. Please sign on to the agreement to implement a strong, equitable regional climate protection policy through TCI. Invest in the communities that have suffered the most from burning gasoline and have the least access to clean transportation options. Stop sending our hard-earned dollars out of the state to oil companies, and choose to create jobs, grow the economy, and save lives for families and businesses. Thank you. |

I cant drive any less from my rural home to work. My husband works 6 days a week installing satellite internet to rural Mainers that cant get internet through other providers. His day is spent with hours of driving. His company doesn't reimburse him for gas or mileage so if he drives two hours and the satellite can't go in, he doesn't get paid. With more taxes, he will not be able to afford to work. This is a horrible idea for the common peoples of Maine and would only hurt us. City living isn't what everyone does!! |

Currently, many of us rely on the fossil fuel industry to simply move around. For them to use those funds to prevent forward momentum on cleaner transit options is a serious concern that needs to be addressed. The TCI helps us take back some power from corporate interests so that we can actively work to built the transportation and transit systems that we need - not those that are being forced upon us by the fossil fuel industry. We have many Mainers who are home-bound and unable to access services they need, we have trouble finding volunteer drivers for programs to help folks with transportation challenges, we have people commuting in cars who could benefit from reliable transit, and we have folks who are unable to walk or bike close distances because our sidewalks and streets are unsafe for people not in cars. Transit is something that we need to build and invest in before we see it used - we have to build a system that works for people if we expect them to use it. This is an economic development issue that we need to address now so that we can build the state we want in the next 20 years. I encourage the TCI to work with stakeholders from many sectors - health care, regional transportation providers, schools, bicycle and pedestrian advocacy groups, and businesses to help make the case for this important effort. Thank you for taking on this important work! |

It is crucial that our state takes control of the climate crisis immediately. These are pathetic statistics for a country that is one of the most developed in the world.
The effects of climate change are having a dangerous impact OUR environment. We have seen astronomical increases in sea levels, hurricanes, wild fires, melted arctic ice, and other natural disasters because of climate change. If we do not do anything about this disaster we are rapidly killing off forestation, wildlife, and HUMAN LIFE, and will continue to do so. (There is an average of 600,000 deaths/year related to climate change. Specifically in developing & 3rd world countries).
We demand that our state takes action by joining the plan to reduce transportation emissions, and develops a strong program that invests in public transportation, biking, walking, and prioritizes equity. If we don't help take control of this crisis ACTIVELY, we only have ourselves to blame when it's too late.
