I demand that the policies have strong components of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access. I express my support and gratitude for the bipartisan nature of this project, and the legislators who aren’t corrupted by the dirty fuel cartel. Thank you for moving us forward while the shameless Republican-led federal government betrays our nation on every level. |

PA is falling behind all other northeastern and mid-Atlantic states in the transition to a smart, clean energy infrastructure. Clean transportation is the future. PA cannot afford to continue to keep its head in the sand. We need strong public transportation, not just in the Philadelphia area, but in every major city across the state. Trapping people in polluting, expensive internal combustion engines, causing congestion, inefficiency and waste is guaranteed to diminish our state's productivity and increase our citizens' health problems. |

It's a big step toward reducing our carbon emissions and also makes economic sense because:
1. We import 100% of our gas, propane, and heating oil from outside of Vermont. Many of those states will join TCI and then pass the costs to consumers further down the line, including in Vermont. If we don't join, then we're stuck with the costs without receiving any of the benefits.
2. About a quarter of fossil fuels sold in Vermont are purchased by tourists and other travelers. TCI proceeds will be distributed based on fuel sales within each state, so we will receive back more in revenues than Vermonters contribute.
Note to Governor Scott: This is an opportunity to earn more than we spend and use that money to support the Vermonters who need it the most. You have often encouraged a regional approach to climate change -- well, this is it. It's a rational, thoughtful, equitable, and economically valid solution. I urge your support.

The TCI Gas tax will soon dramatically rise the price of gasoline if the Raimondo administration gets their way. Click here or on the button below to sign the growing petition, and then comment against this tax hike on the TCI website.
Your voice is powerful, and it is making the difference. Many lawmakers have already expressed their opposition to the TCI gas tax, but it still isn't enough.
We have them on the ropes, but we must keep the pressure on. The proponents of this progressive agenda won't let up, and neither can we. Thank you. |

I support DC joining TCI as a part of our decarbonization strategy. The regional aspect is important particularly in the DMV and it will raise important funding for our transportation needs. Outside of Cumberland County, the majority of Mainers are rural. That means driving distances just to get to work. Myself, I live in Belfast and used to have to commute to Bangor every days, a 40-mile 1 way trip. When Bush was in office and gas hit over $4 per gallon, I was forced to change to working 4 10+ hour days instead of 5 8-hour days just to save on the gas costs.
Governor Mills wants to send us back to those days, when people have to choose between paying for the gas to keep getting to work or paying other bills. It's unreasonable, and unwarranted. This is not California. The Democrats in the Portland area are NOT representative of Maine itself. This must NOT be permitted. |

However I was shocked at how the proposal from this whole effort would only result in 1-6% emissions reductions from the baseline case. This is simply not at the scale of the problem we face. Incrementalist approaches are no longer an option--we have to get transportation emissions down in the decade of 2032 by as close to 100% as possible. Our study showed how that could be done in one TCI state, Rhode Island. See: https://www.sei.org/publications/deeper-decarbonization-in-the-ocean-state/. My concern is that this initiative will create the perception that something is being done about climate change, when this is utterly, utterly, inadequate. Thank you. |

I will admit my ignorance on what the actual percentage of Maines, or New Englands, emissions actually contribute to climate change. Unless the money is going to fund a war to take over India and China, it is clearly just another over reach by the government. Please, as a voting and vocal citizen, I ask you (whomever actually reads any of this) to leave us alone. I understand it's the government business mind set, how do we increase revenues? Just tax the people MORE. It isn't going to make a difference in the climate, so why punish the people in one of the most carbon neutral, if not even a carbon sink, state. Thank you for your time, and please dont make it a partisan vote. |
