Fuel surcharges and taxes are deeply regressive in nature and would hit the poor and working poor of this region the hardest. From primary transportation costs to downstream cost increases in food and consumer goods this scheme will hurt the most vulnerable among us. Carbon control and mitigation can be achieved via passive means such as maintaining green space, planting trees, protecting small family farms that engage in organic and regenerative farming practices.
Finally cap and trade schemes are unproven as to their effectiveness and offer little more than carbon indulgences to those that emit. |

With no public transportation, and much higher than average commuting distances, workers in this already disadvantaged part of the state can ill-afford to bear the extra cost associated with increased gasoline taxes at any level of government. |

Our rent is easily at least 900 a month one bedroom and most of the time thats not including any utilities. Unlike a good amount of states we HAVE to have heat in the winter which we HAVE to pay for. We HAVE to have inspection stickers unlike a good amount of states, we need to take care of insurances, groceries, etc. And now you want us to pay more for gas too? We already have to pay so much just to lay our heads on a pillow at night, most of us over here have way overdue bills or no food but let's just raise the gas prices right???? We are already financially struggling enough over here. I am totally on board with changing stuff and helping our planet it is our only one, but dont punish people who already can barely get by. |

I abhor this theft of my livelihood via taxation for the fool's pursuit of Carbon Reduction. First most, carbon dioxide is NOT a pollutant! Anthropogenic climate change is NOT a proven fact, it relies on pseudo science, mass hysteria, and most of all (TAX) MONEY. I live in rural Vermont, a state with the lowest carbon footprint of any in our nation. Our economy is precarious at best. We travel to work on rudimentary roads, for limited pay from businesses teetering on financial collapse. Our State government continues to overtax it's citizens to support those that can't or won't support themselves. This CARBON TAX is just more of the same. It will ruin our local economy, bankrupt businesses, and hasten the exodus of those who cannot afford to live here. Your blind ambitions will yield a poisoned fruit. " |

This compact is only about putting another tax for government spending on us and about controlling our lives.
What exactly would the money be used for that would in fact change the climate?
The United States is the cleanest country in the world.
China and India are huge polluters and you taking more money out of our pockets will not do one thing to change China or India.
Maine is one of the cleanest states in the US. We are also one of the poorest. The last thing we need is to be made poorer and made poorer over something as phony as the climate change hoax.
