TCI Regional Policy Design Stakeholder Submissions

Any idea presented that will create an unwanted tax is a terrible idea. The TCI will create at least a $0.17 increase in the cost for both regular and diesel fuels. In a large state such as Maine, that is already the highest taxed state in the Union, adding another tax to our fuel will break some truck drivers and companies as well as send more of us toward the poverty line. This is a terrible idea.

We must take action to combat the climate crisis. Our children’s future depends on it.

Transportation emissions are now the largest source of carbon emissions in the country, I care about our environment and health and support a cap and invest program in MA to get these emissions under control. It’s also of critical importance that the investment component takes equity into account and serves underserved and low income communities most impacted. Lastly, it’s a great example of bipartisanship and getting things done across party lines- let’s do this!

Certainly "we" have the brains to come up with a doable, comprehensive plan, and then "we" need to convince the politicians on both sides to be sure funding is in place... it's becoming a cliché but time is running out and we won't have second chance...we fix the problems we've helped create or the problems will fix us.

I request that Vermont formally join the Transportation and Climate Initiative and reduce our transportation emissions, which is our largest source of global warming emissions. The TCI plan provides for equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access. The bipartisan nature of this project is a critical component of this plan, moving us forward while the federal government takes us backward.

I am passionate about reducing pollution from transportation, in part because transportation is our largest source of global warming emissions. We are in the midst of a climate crisis, and we need to do everything in our power to reduce emissions in a just way. I urge this plan to include equity at every stage of the process, by ensuring that clean investments are prioritized for communities who are traditionally left out and who face more of the burden from pollution. Corporations need to be held accountable, and the benefits need to be put towards marginalized people. Marginalized/frontline communities need to be consulted at every stage of the process and their voices uplifted. We desperately need to invest in public transportation and make it a better option than personal vehicles.

I am glad to learn that this is a bipartisan effort, and I look forward to following up with the progress of this plan. The Climate Crisis, and the crisis of income inequalities are emergencies, and we need to do something about it now.

Our transportation system is stuck in the dark ages. Traffic congestion from millions of cars and trucks are polluting our lungs and planet more than ever before. But as we enter this new decade, we have an opportunity modernize how we get from point A to point B. We need an enforceable limit on transportation pollution and we need to invest in clean, modern mobility solutions across the region. The policy must have a strong component of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and for those who don't have access. I hope that Virginia will formally join the plan to reduce emissions. Finally, I appreciate the bipartisan nature of this project, attempting to move us forward while the federal government keeps trying to take us backward.

Transportation is our largest source of regional and national carbon emissions, and I fully support efforts to curb transportation-related pollution. In addition to protecting our planet for future generations, reducing pollution will better our air quality and therefore the health of residents. I commend the bipartisan effort to curb carbon emissions, and am hopeful that New York State adopts these stricter regulations.
