TCI Regional Policy Design Stakeholder Submissions

This is a letter from 147 Maryland LCV Supporters who signed a petition in support of TCI and the following: attached are their names and cities.

To Whom it May Concern:

I am a strong supporter of the The Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI), a collaboration of twelve states and D.C. that would cap transportation emissions and auction emissions allowances. This is a once in a generation opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and raise much needed revenue to modernize our transportation system on a regional scale.

As a Marylander, I thank Governor Hogan for his leadership in supporting TCI and request that Maryland formally join the program. We ask that leaders of the TCI choose the most aggressive greenhouse gas reduction targets- as current scientific studies show that we need.

We also urge that the policy prioritizes clean investments in all of Maryland's communities overburdened by pollution and for those who do not have access to transportation choices.

I don't appreciate your fuel tax increase one bit, just to appease out of state interests. Let's see how many leave this state with all this talk of tax increases everywhere you turn.

We pay enough taxes with little to no exchange for our end. Do not proceed with this money grab. I do not agree with it.

I do not feel the state of Maine should join the other states on this TCI. As everyone should know, if you increase the price of gas it makes everything else go up in cost. The people of the state of Maine are already burdened with high taxes and this will affect every family in the state of Maine. So I feel a BIG NO is in order for this proposal.

I do believe the TCI is just a backdoor gas taxk, call it what it is. I am totally against this. We pay enough in taxes that are being misappropriated and I am against writing out a blank check for you to add to those misappropriated funds. This is deceitful by trying to fool or pass it by the residents of this state without many even knowing you are doing it.

I am in total support of the TCI mission. I would like to see prioritizing of mass transit, commuting, biking, walking over conventional automobile-based transportation.

I am very concerned over the TCIs goal of rationing fuel through auctions. This will artificialy drive up fuel costs for the most vulnerable in the state. We have no control over these fuel rations yet what happens when we have an unusually cold winter and lets say with long term power outages. Then what, we pay the piper. What happens when the fuel carbon allowance is exceeded due to out of state visitors that we forget to factor in to the equation. Killington World Cup attracts thousands of SUVs. In the seventies, I was taught personal responsibility, and to spread that message. Now we teach our children that ineffective protesting is the only way forward. Teach your children how to be a custodian of the planet and stay out of my life. Climate change=corporate greed, not me and my family trying to survive on less and less. Take away everyones money and theyll quit polluting the planet. Start with Leo and Al?

This state doesn’t need another tax increase, no matter how you package it. This democratic run legislature thinks nothing of adding to the tax burden on the citizens of this state. How about finding ways to save money for the taxpayers? Ya’ know, sharpen the pencils. This is a bad idea that will hopefully affect your political aspirations. Then again, I am a Republican who voted Scott Brown and Geoff Diehl and has no desire to see any of you re-elected anyway. All I know is , there are ways to raise the money you so desperately crave, without stepping on us even harder. So pissed. Anybody can get elected and raise taxes. Make what you get from us work. Spend some time on the job.
