We as responsible citizens need to help alleviate greenhouse gases and other pollutants and must find suitable means of transportation that use less or no fossil fuel.
We need to come up with more public transportation which is accessible to more people and more convenient.

How is this even helping the environment. I’ve seen the electric fill-up station at LL Bean. Constantly empty. We car and truck drivers need a tax break. Stop trying to force us, through legislation, to do, act, eat, drive, heat, and live in a way that we don’t want to. This is not progressive. It’s oppressive and authoritarian. |

An important one is the ability to bring back sidewalks in neighborhoods and bike paths in towns and cities. Children living close to their school should be able to walk or bike safely to their schools, less school buses. Yes in wintertime it is difficult but somehow for many decades we were able to get our kids to school without school buses.

After working in the field of public health for over 25 years, 17 of which were in Maine's state public health agency, I've watched the evidence emerge that we must address the social determinants of health, i.e. the factors that protect and improvce population health, and not just focus on access to medical care. A sustainable low carbon transportation plan can help mitigate the impact of climate change, and improve regional air quality. It will support improved quality of life in our communities, and especially so for vulnerable populations such as those affected by low income, the very old and the very young, and those experiencing heath inequities. In our rural state, this policy process will extend to attracting a workforce that seeks to work and reside in liveable communities. It will contribute to economic development when more viable alternatives are available to all in our very rural state where the demand for access to affordable transportation is so huge. Public health also recognizes that while community health happens on the ground, strategically it is efficient to develop policies, especially those which are deployed at the regional level. As a member of the Maine Public Health Association, I'm proud that our organization representing over 700 public health professionals, recently won an award for environmental health advocacy; I am sure many of my colleagues would agree with me. |

No thanks and you will be voted out of office because the people are sick and tired of your wasteful spending. New Hampshire is right not to stand with you morons... |

Adoption of TCI will usher in a new economy with substantial economic, health, and environmental benefits by transitioning to cleaner and more efficient transportation options.
Maine can’t miss this opportunity to invest in solutions to help Maine people safely get to where they need to go that are both affordable and good for the environment.
Mainers deserve new options that result in cleaner air and healthier choices. Pouring pollution into the air and sending our hard-earned money out of state to line the pockets of the fossil fuel industry is not the best path forward for our economy.
Maine needs an ambitious plan to reduce climate-changing transportation pollution. Working together with neighboring states to give Maine hundreds of millions of dollars it can invest here at home just makes sense.
Adopting TCI will further the mission of saving our precious planet for our children. |
