One of Maine's long standing industries, logging, will greatly suffer with increased fuel taxes. This is a rural state which often requires long distance driving between communities. I am a retired citizen living on fixed income and can't afford additional fuel taxes for my everyday living that Gov Mills feels is required. TCI is not a good deal for Mainers. |

The United States has one of the toughest environmental laws around its the other countries that do not. Raising fuel prices will raise everything else (food, clothing,Medicine, ETC,ETC ). if it cost more to make it and deliver it called trickle down economics. The only ones who suffer is the American people. Janet Mills should have never became governor because she already put Maine back in the RED blew all the rainy day funds and thinks she is doing what she thinks is the best for Maine, the only thing that is best for Maine is that she is removed from office |

Many of us make choices everyday what we'll be going without to make it through the month. Adding fees, taxes to gas is simply horrendous. Maine is a long distance state, we travel 30-50mi easy from one to another. We cannot afford be moneyed out of our cars buy these fees. We can't afford the luxury of electrical cars, it's too Beyond our means. Don't make Mainers worse off. Stop this foolishness, we cannot afford, we are Not California. |

I’m writing in support of the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) because Maine is in great need of clean transportation options. I’m grateful that Gov. Mills is focusing on climate change, including the issue of pollution from emissions, and that this effort has strong bipartisan support.
I hope that the TCI policy design take the latest science on climate emissions into consideration. I would also ask that the policy addresses issues of equity so that rural, low-income, and/or aging populations are not hurt by this program – rather, they should be helped. We need more rural transit options, including electric cars and buses, but we also need more of those options in urban areas. I look forward to seeing how this initiative evolves, and thanks again to those who are leading this effort. |

Now, yet another tax increase is on the horizon with the proposed gas tax. Mainers cannot afford her. Maine is a rural state, with lower income residents....many of whom drive many miles to work....often to multiple jobs, simply to get by. Many will be forced to leave....then, who will be left to pay the state's bills? Don't forget all the other activities that will be influenced by such a tax...school bus transport, heating fuel costs, farming, etc. Come down to Earth, governor. |

Maine is a huge state with many rural areas where driving considerable distances is imperative for education, employment and daily living. Many of us are on fixed incomes and cannot absorb the increased costs of getting groceries and medical care.
The negative impact this will have on the citizens is certain. The impact this will have on climate change is questionable.
Government has proven itself incapable of winning any of the "wars" it has declared, be it poverty, drugs or hunger. I do not expect this to be any different. All it will do is waste taxpayers' money and make politicians feel better about themselves. There is no reason to squander resources or pander to elected officials or faceless bureaucrats.
I urge you to disapprove all efforts to increase taxes on commodities we cannot function without purchasing. |

It's what's best for the people who have an agenda. You are hurting hard-working people in the state you are supposed to be helping not hindering with senseless laws. |

I propose that instead of funding the programs from auction proceeds as suggested in the framework that the funding come from a tax and that all proceeds be invested as planned in the cap-and-invest approach. There are too many differences between historical market trading programs that successfully reduced emissions and what is proposed for the TCI to expect that the proposed program will work as well. In addition, there are advantages to a tax which can be summed up as simpler is better. |

We need heating fuel to keep warm and many in the state do not have extra money for this. In addition to heat, we drive 4x4s which require more gas. I understand that other states may push electric cars but in Maine that isn’t an option. Electric cars do not start well in cold weather and are not safe for inclement weather. Taking 4x4s off the road here would result in the entire state shutting down for snow accumulations over 3 inches. |
