I have been retired for almost 3 years and have a fixed income. I want to know why I should have to pay for additional taxes on gas to help reduce carbon emissions ? I do not believe in Global Warming and very angry with politicians trying to ram it down my throat. Being on a fixed income I cannot afford increases every year for the government to put charging stations in Southern Maine. That is discrimination against every retired person in this state. Mills has done nothing for the state of Maine since she got in there except setting a new record for spending money. There are many people that live in rural areas in Maine and we should not have to finance anything that we don't believe in, especially the retiree's living on a fixed income. Maybe Mills wants me to go back to work and work until I die. That way she could bring in some more immigrants. As you can see I am extremely upset, but do not worry because I know nobody cares about my opinion and all the bleeding heart Liberals will have there way and drive 50% of the Maine population into bankruptcy . Have a nice day !!! P.S I will probably have to start burning coal again so I can afford to pay my extra gas taxes. Oh well so much for carbon emissions. |

Small vehicle operators will be crucial to improving rural transportation. 2) Electric light rail but especially heavy passenger rail needs to be a bigger part of the discussion. If the argument is that the ROI doesn't justify the expense, then the arguer is not thinking broad enough or long term enough. Much of economically struggling NY state, not to mention NE/Central East PA is within 2-3 hours of the NE Corridor, a super-region with the GDP roughly of Germany. Making connections to Philadelphia and NY via rail would have an enormous impact. A study was done a decade ago on connecting Binghamton to Scranton and to NYC with rail, and that has gone nowhere. 3) NYS needs to offer sustained funding for innovative mobility concepts already doing this work. |

(2) Rebuild our railroads, especially for freight. One locomotive can pull 100 freight cars, each of which can carry 2-?? trucks' worth of stuff. Once upon a time, no town in the U.S. was more than a few hours from a rail station, and most items got where they were going by rail. Let's go back to that. (3) Subsidize public transportation. |

As one of our leaders, I ask that you choose the most aggressive greenhouse-reduction target that climate scientists urge us to adopt. We must do this as the clock is ticking. Public policy must also prioritize clean investments in areas, particularly our cities, that are overburdened by pollution and/or for those communities that don’t have access to transportation choices like mass transit. I believe that public transit investments should be made with TCI proceeds.

Half measures are NOT enough. We should be adding charging stations for electric cars and trucks, electrifying our buses and railroads so they don't pollute in cities and can be powered by electricity from renewable energy. This is not a time for incrementalism, it's a time for big, bold measures. |

Use of fossil fuels must plummet if we are to prevent the worst effects of global warming.
We need more charging stations if electric autos are ever to become mainstream. We need electric school buses and city buses to clean up the air our citizens breath every day and reduce noise in our communities. We need better rapid transit if we're ever going to reduce the traffic in bigger cities and help their centers thrive and prosper. It's especially important for our children's health now and as adults.
We should look at electrifying most or all rail lines. Again, it would mean cleaner air and quieter trains. Another big benefit is the electricity can come from green sources, as quickly as they can be brought online. Trains powered by electricity are the norm in Europe and Japan, and there were many here in the US about a century ago, for example in the northern Rockies. We made a poor choice when we switched to diesels, although it seemed to make economic sense at the time.
Thank you for your consideration. |

We need the improved health that cleaner air and water will bring. We need the improved quality of life that quieter streets will bring. Most importantly, we need the reduction of global warming that using much less fossil fuel for transportation can bring.
Only a major shift can bring the degree of change necessary. I urge you to develop more rapid transit, and make it powered electrically, so green energy can be the source, not fossil fuels. The amount of wind and solar power generation must be increased rapidly, along with the distribution system to move the power to where it's needed. The distributed nature of renewable sources means some of the generation will be nearer the suburban and rural places where it is used, which should improve the reliability of the power grid and lower overall cost.
I urge more charging locations be built for electric street vehicles. I urge electrifying all rail operations in the region, with the possible exception of branch lines with less than one train a day. Electric railways have been practical for a century or more. We dismantled some electrical rail systems in the Rocky Mountains, instead of adding more miles to them. Diesel locomotives seemed the cheaper, more flexible choice, but have helped bring us to the current, unsustainable situation we are in. It's time our transportation systems were modernized to be as good or better than the Europeans' and Japanese'!
Thank you |

Most of our transportation infrastructure is optimized for motor vehicles: trucks, buses, and cars. CT and many of its towns have turned a blind eye toward the needs of people who can’t, or don’t want to, use those means of transportation and rely instead on using wheelchairs, walking (with or without the help of walking aids), or biking. One component of the initiative, Complete Streets, would equalize transportation choices among all stakeholders regardless of age, income, neighborhood, and physical ability.
The time to politely tiptoe around transportation sector emissions and inequality is over.
I demand the modern, forward-looking changes inherent in the initiative, and say that they must begin now.
The environmental present and future of our state, our region, and our world depend on it.
Thank you.
