If this is such a great idea, why are they afraid of the people's elected representatives voting on a tax increase? I am not opposed to a gas tax increase in principle, but debate it in the light of day, in the Legislature, not by skulking through a labyrinth of bureaucratic offices, hidden from the people! |

I do not believe that control of CO2 emissions from combustion of transportation fuels is a legitimate or a socially beneficial onjective of state legislation. To the extent that such regulation is nonetheless deemed necessary, it should be regulated through fuel tax policy, voted on and administered by the state legislature, not through an opaque and unaccountable regional authority. Further, many aspects of the proposed initiative involve delegations of power and authority substantially unrelated to the stated objective. I believe that this entire program is a special interest power grab to achieve new regulatory and taxing authority, outside of the normal legislative and executive processes.

Our power sector has successfully reduced GHGs through cap and trade while allowing flexibility. Our power prices would be even higher if we did not undertake efficiency measures and the move away from filthy and expensive coal. Improving mass transit, promoting other modes of transportation and electrifying the transport network is an incredible economic, health and GHG reduction strategy. We elect Democrats and responsible Republicans up in the Northeast precisely for measures like these. |

This is just another name for a tax. As a senior citizen who struggles, this additional cost is really going to hurt. We have to make choices. Do I cut back on groceries or prescriptions. Also you are driving our young people away. My son and DIL has sold their home and are moving to NH because of the taxation in this state. My daughter and SIL are looking at relocating next year, My best friend just informed me her son has just sent out resumes looking to relocate out of state. These are 3 educated couples. Can Massachusetts afford to alienate more residents? |

Show me where an increase in gas taxes will make a positive affect on global warming and not hurt us financially and I’ll be on noard |

To raise my taxes without any legislative representation is akin to how the American Revolution started. You have apparently deemed yourselves smarter and more compassionate about the environment than those you wish to force to pay for your nonsense. Even if enacted, the impact would be minuscule, yet the impact on the taxpayer, business owner and driver would be monumental. Perhaps you don't mind paying more at the pumps, or in stores for merchandise and services but I for one do mind. All of this in the name on making yourselves feel better? That you have done something good for the environment? It all comes at the expense of our freedom and basic representation and is not a price I'm willing to pay. |

As TCI jurisdictions have designed a workplan with the goal of developing a policy that accelerates the transition to a low-carbon transportation future and delivers a better, cleaner, more resilient transportation system that benefits all communities, while making significant reductions in greenhouse gases and other harmful air pollution across the mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region, Paired Power would like to comment that renewable energy, such as on-site solar systems, can be deployed to support electric vehicle charging infrastructure for resilient multi-modal transportation needs (e-bike, passenger vehicle, private and public fleets, electric buses, etc.). Please see World Resource Institute working paper attachment titled "Using Renewables For Electric Vehicle Demand" for more information on this cost-effective policy measure to achieve low-carbon transportation goals and eliminate GHG pollution for the region. Please let us know if we can clarify or add to any part of this submission. Thank you. |
