If we choose YOU choose to continue to use fossil fuels, YOU risk OUR health, OUR environment... and OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE.
We have the knowledge and the ability to do better... so, let's insist on doing better. Do a better job protecting OUR health, OUR environment, and the health of future generations. |

In my opinion all local buses & taxis ought to be hybrid or electric.
More things should be hauled by rail instead of on the highways. |

I believe that we can cut poverty and pollution at the same time. I urge you to move forward with a regional program that prioritizes the needs of communities who are the most affected and have the least voice and are overburdened with pollution. I know you wouldn't want unhealthy conditions for your family and neither does anyone else. Thank you for being a wise, caring and strong leader to deal with this.” |

Fossil fueled automobile traffic must be drastically reduced, and cleaner transportation modes are essential. I am appalled by the actions of Maryland Governor Hogan and Comptroller Franchot in approving the Beltway/270 expansion, and fail to understand how Maryland, as a TCI participant, can allow this short-sighted, environmentally irresponsible project to go forward. It will only encourage more traffic and lead to more development, while causing even more congestion while underway. Governor Hogan and Comptroller Franchot are not thinking about the TCI, combating the climate crisis, or prcioviding responsible leadership. By pushing this project and not seeking real, sustainable solutions to the transportation problem, they are doing a real disservice to Marylanders, the United States, and the world. |

A plan is needed that holds large transportation polluters accountable for the pollution they create and invests in clean transportation solutions including:
More public transit and electric vehicle infrastructure in rural areas
Expansion of commuter rail, electric vehicles, and streets in the suburbs that are safe, walkable, and bikeable
Sustainable and equitable housing near transit and electric bus fleets in urban communities |

As a result, Charles Street, a major thoroughfare, has closed down to one lane of auto traffic near John's Hopkins University. There is a bike lane and a lane of metered parking which could have been two or three lanes for auto traffic. The bike lane would also be safer behind the median, but that's more about a bad commissioner.
We used to have trolleys, and the rails have been buried beneath macadem for decades since the trolleys were discontinued. Those rails are sturdy and occasionally peer out when the street is worn down. It would be cheaper and healthier to resurrect the trolleys in the city, then move the bike lane and eliminate the extra parking lane, there already being a parking lane behind the median where the biking would be safer. For the rest of Baltimore, trolley service would be a boon for citizens so poorly served by buses and a very limited subway. |

I strongly support the Transportation and Climate Initiative. In particular, I am pleased with the wording "other pricing mechanism" because I stand in support of a carbon-fee-and-dividend approach to reducing carbon emissions. Whatever pricing mechanism is implemented, I am happy to see Pennsylvania moving toward a lower-carbon-emissions future.
In the "putting your money where your mouth is" department, my husband and I purchased a Prius Prime on January 2. In 7-1/2 weeks, it has been driven over 1100 miles, used 8.5 gallons of gas, and thus has averaged 129 mpg so far. We charge it overnight, and our electricity is 100% wind generated.
We can all do better, and I am in full support of Pennsylvania being part of the Transportation and Climate Initiative to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable climate future for us all. |
