With the oldest population and a natural resource based economy we should be doing everything we can to keep our state clean and green. Like many other states our transportation system relies primarily on cars. This iniative would be a chance to provide alternatives, even given the dispersed, rural nature of the state. |

The vehicles they drive (if they have one) tend to be older, less efficient ones which pollute more. A sensible public alternative powered by cleaner, renewable energy could benefit all of us. And in the long term, as carbon based fuels become more expensive, Most of us will need to think more seriously about getting around using public transportation. Please continue your work to develop this option. |

Maine should use TCI as an opportunity to invest in local transportation solutions that help Maine people get to where they need to go in an affordable way that’s good for our environment. It makes no sense to to be polluting our air while sending our dollars out-of-state. What does make sense is pooling our resources with other states to solve our transportation problems.

Public transportation is often prohibitively expensive (trains, for example, are never a cost effective option; buses are often not viable as well); an affordable choice would certainly help people public options over cars.

How crazy is it that it took a private organization, TrainRiders Northeast, to bring Amtrak to Portland and Brunswick? Why isn't state government supporting this highly successful effort and expanding the concept? In my own memory we had rail service all over the state, with connections to Canadian rail.
Instead of tearing up tracks - even for good causes like "rail trails," we should be restoring rail transportation. Private cars, even electric ones, are really a curse. Private cards are dangerous, highly polluting, anti-social, obviously inefficient (hauling a ton of steel and plastic to carry in most cases one person). We need to wean ourselves off them. Let's create local bus systems that can connect with train stations, buses that could pick up and drop off passengers where needed. We already have some of this. RAMP IT UP. |

We CAN do this! Without it, it will not be very convincing or compelling to the general populace for the rapid transformation of our means of transportation to a cleaner and brighter future. |
