The small additional cost of fossil fuel resulting from joining TCI will likely be a fraction of what Vermonters typically see when fuel prices fluctuate due to changes in the cost of oil due to world events. Additionally, by investing the funds raised through TCI into initiatives designed to promote fuel savings, Vermonters will save lots of money and local economies will be strengthened by reducing the amount of money that leaves the state to purchase fossil fuels. |

Please have VT join the Transportation and Climate Initiative. From what I read, we have more to gain by joining than not joining, especially since we will be benefiting financially from this effort. I hope you will agree that we need to take a stand, small state that we are, to start to do something to address our part in climate degradation. Your leadership sends a strong message to those in this state who do not pay attention to climate news, that we are ALL a part of whatever solution we devise. Please be a leader and guide us to do the right thing.
Thank you, Ann Vanneman |

It is an important opportunity for Vermont to take responsible, effective action to address our unsustainable use of fossil fuels. Vermonters will end up paying for this regional agreement whether or not you enroll us. We should receive some financial benefit, especially if the benefit is used to help people with low incomes as has been proposed by VPIRG and others. By joining TCI, you would demonstrate your commitment to not only the environment but also to the people in Vermont who most need help. This action could offset some of the negative perceptions you have generated by recent vetoes of parental leave and minimum wage legislation. Thanks very much! |

correct the the pollution cause?? Will we be having boil water alerts that last for months?? NO MORE studies, time for action is NOW! ACTION to close COAL fired electric power plants should be number one on the agenda for Climate Change agenda!NO CARBON TAX IN VT.We are not the problem! |

I have written before, but feel compelled to let you know, again, how much I hope you take a bold stand this legislative session to support TCI and the Global Warming Solutions Act. We need action as soon as possible to set us on the right track. I also understand that if some of VT's fossil fuel suppliers are in State that join TCI then Vermont will feel that burden of extra cost without any of the gain of being part of the initiative. That would really be a shame.
I am sure there is a way to relieve low income households from the extra burden of paying more for fuels. My experience with gas pricing is that it is all over the map anyway, but has anyone talked about issuing gas cards to low income drivers? That would be one way to relieve elevated costs of gasoline. There are already rebate systems in place for other costs, so I am sure there is a solution for this possible inequity. I do not consider the costs to low income Vermonters to be a real stumbling block to moving forward. We really can not wait. Thank you for your work and your consideration of my view point. .

I have attended 2 forums on the TCI, and read the online materials. The TCI will create a regional entity to reduce transportation GHG emissions, including states that comprise a large part of the U.S. economy. It will be built on a proven cap-and-invest framework (based on RGGI) that can be expanded in the future. Given the rapidly growing risk of runaway climate change, we need to take every feasible action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and this program does that. |

If Vermont joins TCI, the State will receive more revenue for investments than Vermonters contribute to the program.
The program is also a great opportunity to address economic inequality for Vermont families. A significant portion of TCI proceeds should be directed to reducing the energy burdens of Vermonters with low incomes. This will help Vermont to become more affordable for Vermonters who do not have high incomes.
All the best,

That we are the only state in the Northeast to increase greenhouse has emissions since 1990 and that our per capita emissions are the highest in New England, is a disgrace. We must do everything possible to ensure a clean future for our children and grandchildren. |
