From the behind the scenes scheming to keep this from public vote, to the massive economic toll it will take on everyone and everything in the state and beyond. Raising fuel costs increases the costs not just of the fuel itself, but of all items that must be grown, packed, shipped, kept warm or cold and so on. Further this 'plan' has no defined budget, goals or metrics, and as such it will just be another sink hole of money. Shame on you polititions! |

If and when my elected representatives have the opportunity to consider and vote on it, I want the opportunity to hold them accountable for this tax. I consider the intent of this initiative to be fundamentally flawed and the likelihood of government spending to have any meaningful effect to be highly unlikely. |

Once the politicians start taking your money without your approval, especially for a " CLIMATE" initiative it will never end. Any money that is spent on something that you can never change, like the "CLIMATE" will turn into a progressive milking of taxpayer money . Like the progressive tax tax that we voted against some years ago. Unlike the FMLA "TAX" that was forced on the Massachusetts worker, this "TCI" should ,at the very least, be brought to the voters. Don't the citizens of Massachusetts pay enough taxes? Bring it to the voters. |

In Massachusetts, ALL Taxes MUST originate in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, period! I just returned from LA, and a gallon of gasoline cost $4.50 a gallon. Outrageous! Every dime store politician in Massachusetts who supports TCI, needs to be voted out of office, this includes “Tall Deval,” our RINO Governor, Charlie Baker! |

Primary objections are: 1) Mass. governor's unilateral commitment to join without a vote of the legislature or citizenry; 2) climate change is contentious and must be addressed at federal level, not at state or regional level; 3) based on my experience, the demonstrated ineffectiveness of government to solve problems such as this; 4) the proposed tax increases are extremely regressive, will cripple the economy, and will expand already bloated governments. In summary, would like to see your organization go away. |

An increased gas tax was recently repealed just a few short years ago by the voters of Massachusetts. Stop gouging us. I find it incredibly cowardly to foist this upon the citizenry by hiding it behind a collaboration of states efforts to reduce carbon. This is a farce and unconstitutional. If you want to raise the gas tax then propose a bill in the legislature on which each and every elected legislator will have to have their vote recorded and scrutinized by their constituents. |

Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Kathleen Theoharides claims the difference between TCI and a gas tax is the point of regulation. This is irrelevant to consumers who will soon be paying more at the pump for this regressive tax scheme. Make no mistake: this is a very slippery slope for Massachusetts. Although this is still in the early stages, lawmakers from other states in the TCI agreement are seeking legislative approval. Governor Baker’s administration, whether legally required or not, should also act in good faith and seek legislative approval. There must be an open and transparent legislative process on the details of the agreement. |
