TCI Regional Policy Design Stakeholder Submissions

We need bold action to curb transportation congestion and air pollution. Maybe TCI is not perfect but it is a good step in the right direction. I support this Initiative.

I wish to make known my opinion that the TCI Initiative is a mere end run around established law to gain what amounts to another tax,which has already been refused by the voters.And takes control of said tax away from the voters,you may not have my permission to remove my given rights.

I strongly oppose this effort by Gov. Baker to bypass the state legislature to support TCI and skip the democratic process to create a multiple state program. We already have enough trouble getting our elected officials to provide funding for roads.

According to our State Constitution all state taxes must originate in the House. Governor Baker does not have authority to unilaterally raise taxes. Commonwealth Magazine reported that “The expectation of policy makers is that the cost of the allowances will be passed along to drivers at the gas pump, incentivizing them to use less, and the states will divvy up allowance money to support public transit and deal with climate change.”

The fund would allow powerful politicians to control and spend money completely separate from the legislature on non-road projects. Voters have repeatedly rejected gas tax hikes and carbon taxes. In California, where a similar program was launched, gas prices went up 12 to 14 cents a gallon and are over 4 dollars today. TCI is attempting to bypass the democratic process without forcing the legislature to take a vote.

Do your job! Dont force the people to pay for your incompetence. Follow the law and hold votes every time you can and the law requires. Your actions will destroy this state and the rest of new England. Stop the foolish spending and audit yourselves and the state to make all adjustments we citizens demand to better our lives. Impeachment is not an issue that should be on anyones plate when we our infrastructure is crumbling around us. Gas taxes will not fix this, raising taxes will not fix this. Only working within our means will give us what we need

I am so pleased to learn of this initiative. I have been hearing of the predicted increase of delivery trucks as people more and more do on line shopping. This is expected to lead to much increased traffic and congestion and obviously increased carbon emissions if no action is taken to encourage the use of electric powered vehicles, or at lest more fuel efficient ones.

I vote for politicians that agree to be held accountable for every tax and fee they have the opportunity to vote up or down. I completely disagree with methods of taxes and fees imposed because a group of think tank activists believe they know more than any individual. This is a scam.

I live in NJ. My husband and I will be moving soon to CT to be near our older son and his family. Our other son lives in DC. I would LOVE for train travel to be more convenient and more frequent, as it is in Europe. For day trips into NYC, short vacations in New England, PA, DE, MD and visits to DC, train travel is (or should be) much safer and better for the environment than traveling by car. Yet it just isn't simple. Even now, living just outside NYC, we find it easier to drive into Manhattan for restaurants, museums and entertainment, than taking the train. More expensive, but not to be stuck in one of the Penn Stations for an hour, because the trains are so infrequent (if they are even running at all...hello Uber!). This just shouldn't be our reality in the "greatest country."
