Dear Good People:
Please design and implement a regional low-carbon transportation policy proposal that would cap and reduce carbon emissions from the combustion of transportation fuels through a cap-and-invest program or other pricing mechanism… [and]… to complete the policy development process within one year, after which each jurisdiction will decide whether to adopt and implement the policy.
Thank you very much in advance for designing and implementing a regional low-carbon transportation policy proposal that would cap and reduce carbon emissions from the combustion of transportation fuels through a cap-and-invest program or other pricing mechanism… [and]… to complete the policy development process within one year, after which each jurisdiction will decide whether to adopt and implement the policy.” |

In order for this regional plan to work, governors of these states and the mayor of Washington, D.C., must ensure that this transportation plan is bold enough to cut harmful transportation pollution at the scale needed to avert the climate crisis. We need a plan that holds large transportation polluters accountable for the pollution they create and invests in clean transportation solutions including:
More public transit and electric vehicle infrastructure in rural areas
Expansion of commuter rail, electric vehicles, and streets in the suburbs that are safe, walkable, and bikeable
Sustainable and equitable housing near transit and electric bus fleets in urban communities
But opponents of the Transportation and Climate Initiative have been flooding a public comment page on this plan with negative comments. Now, we need to turn the tide to demonstrate how many people want to see a bold and ambitious plan to cut transportation pollution in their state and in the region. Please ensure that our environment and wildlife are number 1. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kristin A. Crage |

Having clean energy efficient transportation will get us where we need to go and attract others to Maine who are looking for a "healthy" environment to live in. Affordable and good for our environment, a win-win!
We are proud of out environmental record and highly value clean air! Now is the time to expand transportation in Maine which will attract companies to Maine that will provide good jobs. Companies also look for healthy living and leisure activities which Maine has.
We can do this together with the rest of New England states and make clean transportation available for Mainers. This is an important part of the future of transportation and Maine must be ready to take part.

Certainly Maine is desperate for more affordable transportation, BUT at what costs? Negative inducements like taxes, do NOT work! What we really need are positive incentives, supportive government, and investors that believe in clean transportation initiatives! The technology is out there and Maine is "ripe" for investors and developers of clean transportation. We should be doing all we can as a state to promote clean energy and transportation. The time is NOW! |

Time the US stopped ignoring the need for mass transportation. We need to spend real $ & serious planning on this or just add to the climate catastrophe that has already started. By changing the transportation industry we can help mitigate the Climate Emergency. Hopefully more and better transportation will be accessible to people where it was not before. Reducing pollution from transportation is a key component to reducing Pennsylvania's emissions and improving the quality of the air we breathe here. Public transit investments that could be made with TCI proceeds would be valuable to that end.
I would like to see our leaders choose the aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target that the most recent climate science tells us we need. I want to see policy that prioritizes clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don’t have access to transportation choices. Thanks for your consideration. |

To keep Maine growing and bringing in new business we MUST have transportation for workers and to get products to markets. To increase tourism we MUST provide transpiration to ALL parts of Maine. New families, elderly, and students will require transportation for access to educational facilities, medical care, and jobs. NOW is the time for Maine to invest in clean, energy efficient transportation. Every $ spent will help Maine to grow and prosper. Every $ spent on CLEAN energy efficient transportation is a win-win for all of this New England area in clean air, lower costs, and increased access for inter-state travel. If we ALL work together, we will ALL benefit. |
