I support the Transportation and Climate Initiative. This transportation plan must be bold enough to cut harmful transportation pollution at the scale needed to avert the climate crisis. We need a plan that holds large transportation polluters accountable for the pollution they create and invests in clean transportation solutions including:
More public transit and electric vehicle infrastructure in rural areas
Expansion of commuter rail, electric vehicles, and streets in the suburbs that are safe, walkable, and bikeable
Sustainable and equitable housing near transit and electric bus fleets in urban communities. |

If people can put so much planning into all the gas and oil pipelines, then I’m sure we can put at least as much thought into public transportation and clean energy!
It is a lot nicer and generally safer to take a train than to drive a vehicle. |

I live in West Chesterfield, New Hampshire and support a price on carbon. Climate change is the biggest threat humankind has ever faced and it requires us to take swift action. As stated in the 2018 I.P.C.C. report, the world has fewer than twelve years in which to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least 45% below 2017 levels.
According to over three thousand five hundred of the world's leading economists, putting a price on carbon is the most effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The price should be high enough to, at a minimum, reach the goals outlined in the I.P.C.C. report. The implementation should not harm those in lower income brackets.
I support TCI and am appreciative that it is bipartisan in nature. The changing climate does not discriminate. It affects all of us regardless of political affiliation, race, gender, age, income, ethnicity, nationality or species. We all benefit from a stable climate and we will all suffer as our climate becomes less stable.

What we started in the 1970s should have been finished long before now. We need to build and sell electric vehicles to replace combustion engine buses, trucks and cars. I purchased an all-electric car, the Volkswagon eGolf and paid $20,000 for it after rebates. Not everyone can afford to buy a new car, however, even if it is only $20,000, so the government needs to give incentives to people so that they can afford them. Cities and towns across the country need to replace their old buses and city vehicles to electric vehicles. Companies that use trucks need to purchase electric trucks.
First we need to implement a carbon fee and dividend program that will tax any company that extracts fossil fuels based on the ton of greenhouse gases the extracted fuels will emit when burned. Once the tax is collected by the government, the government will rebate all of that money back to every American household in the form of a dividend check. To incentivize other countries to reduce their carbon footprint, a border tax should be imposed on imports again based on the ton of greenhouse gases that were emitted to produce that product. Once a carbon fee and dividend law is enacted, innovation will be unleashed and manufacturers of electric vehicles will flood the market with them and their prices will decrease.
There is no time to waste on this. |

Since transportation auses the most greenhouse gas emissions of any of the economic sectos, it only makes common sense to limit that as TCI will do. I am heartily in favor of TCI. It is bad for Maine - and all the other states involved. I cannot afford a new car that is battery powered. This is not something Maine's Governor should be doing to us taxpayers. Stop this nonsense now! And what about the fossil fuel used to make the batteries, to recycle the batteries, and the carbon fuel - electricity - to charge the batteries, and to build these cars???? Charge the extra taxes to the people buying these cars .... |

To actually effect a critical reduction in VMT the "price at the pump" needs to start higher with assurances it will go even higher.
There should be explicit measures to address the inequitable hardship on low-income and rural households using some portion of the auction income to cushion this inequity. I hope Pennsylvania will join in this regional effort. |

It always strikes me that in Europe the broad swath of the population feels comfortable taking the fast, clean, safe, and ubiquitous public transportation, whereas in third-world countries the public transportation is poor, filthy, slow, and often dangerous -- and the air is deeply polluted by the inefficient cars and trucks on the roads. The United States leans toward these latter conditions more than it does toward the former. Our roads are increasingly congested, our air is less safe to breathe, and we are contributing unconscionably to climate disaster. We need a complete overhaul of our transportation system and a public relations campaign to turn our citizens' minds toward using public transportation -- and toward that end, it needs to be fast, safe, reliable, and ubiquitous. |

We also live in an area in which the public transportation system is basically set up for the commuting workers in and out of Hartford, but is very inconvenient for evenings and weekends and those folks who work a non-9-5 schedule. If we as a nation are to move ahead with clean methods of transport, we need to invest in systems that people can use as an alternative to driving .

We need a big switch in priorities to allow all people who share this city to have the same clean air as do those who can pollute more to live farther away from the city by driving their cars further! MORE POLLUTION FOR US! |

It is imperative that we reduce carbon emissions in that climate change is moving rapidly upon us, as evidenced by the accelerated melting of the polar ice caps. This will contribute to stronger storms , hurricanes, flooding and droughts. I fear a feedback loop of carbon and methane releases from the tundra region, which will further accelerate climate chaos.

The planet can no longer tolerate our profligate use of this amazing resource. In order to curb carbon emissions it is beyond clear we need better ways to transport ourselves, including goods and services. I strongly urge you to adopt a comprehensive plan that incorporates infrastructure upgrades to rail lines and a strong move toward electric vehicles, use of bike lanes and pedestrian friendly options for travel. It would be nice to live in an era where cars and trucks are not the first mode of getting from A to B. We need to do this NOW. |

It is critical we reduce our carbon emissions quickly, in that climate change is moving faster than expected ,, as measured by accelerated melting of the polar ice caps, the increased burning of forests and extreme weather events. |
