Beverly	concerned citizen	Urbana	Illinois	I am writing to support a strong Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) program, the purpose of which is to design a program that will reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector.... read more I am writing to support a strong Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) program, the purpose of which is to design a program that will reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. According to a recently released study by Harvard and other institutions, if the program is designed appropriately, up to 1,100 lives can be saved annually, and the region could see $11 billion in health benefits each year. I ask that the following issues are supported in the design: a cap on carbon emissions of at least 25% by 2032; an increase in the minimum investment in overburdened and underserved communities (>35%); and, I respectfully request that investments be put towards active transportation like better sidewalks, bicycle infrastructure, and high quality public transit. A regional low-carbon transportation program could only provide benefits for citizens and the environment. Thank you for your consideration.	-

It would be wonderful, in this age of anger in politics, to see a bi-partisan effort to reduce these emissions, thereby - hopefully - insuring a brighter and healthier future for today's youth and this planet. I am 70 years old, and I remember as a young child being in heavy traffic in the Lincoln Tunnel and hardly able to breath. Things are better today but need to get better and I hope it will.	-

The Transportation and Climate Initiative will help to clean this sector up, This program could help to create safe roads for biking and walking, more frequent and reliable public transportation, greater access to electric vehicles, and a more equitable system with cleaner transportation options for everyone in the region. My hybrid automobile is my only usage of fossil fuels. (I have lived in fossil fuel free homes since 1980- my electricity is now powered by solar and heat is geothermal). I would like to switch to an electric vehicle if there was an affordable one that met my family's needs. In villages and cities, bike lanes are needed to make biking a safe and clean (and healthy) way to travel. With fewer gasoline and diesel vehicles on the road, the air would be cleaner for pedestrians and bikers to breathe. All around, I encourage New York and the other northeastern states to enact the TCI.	-

We lived in Southern Calif when if you went into LA your eyes burned save it was so skinny you couldn't see much. Then they cleaned up that air. Car manufacturers want less polluting cars because their customers want that. Future generations will look back and judge the polluters who are ruining our earth for their own monetary profits.	-

We support efforts for a cleaner environment but it must be with a balanced approach to be both effective and affordable. Electricity is not the answer to it all. As you know, there have been great strides in both gasoline and diesel technologies. Propane is a clean fuel, is readily available in the United States, and can effectively and economically provide energy today in a number of key areas.	-
