TCI Regional Policy Design Stakeholder Submissions

The Northeast region needs to set an overall limit on pollution from transportation through a regional “cap-and-invest” program, similar to the program the region implemented for electricity-related emissions. This program would begin to hold oil companies accountable for their emissions and provide funding for clean mobility for Northeast residents.

This is no longer a luxury — we need to enact bold change.

It is through actions like these that we in the Northeast can show the whole country that we can lead again. We can create a better, cleaner transportation system for Northeast residents through investments in public transportation and new technologies such as electric vehicles.

I am pleased to learn of the Transportation and Climate Initiative for states in the Northeast, the Mid Atlantic and DC to work together to reduce pollution from transportation. Since fuel emissions are a major contributor to the growing crisis of climate change, I heartily support the coalition and its aims. I think that a plan that reduces emissions and traffic congestion is a great idea. The pollution from traffic has a major impact on health and contributes to any number of diseases. Some areas are overburdened by pollution and other areas suffer from a lack of access to public transportation which adds both traffic congestion and fuel exhaust from private vehicles to the atmosphere. I urge all of the officials to work together to improve the air in this high traffic, highly densely populated corridor. It is heartening to see efforts by state and local leaders to move us forward by improving conditions and reducing carbon emissions despite the federal government 's efforts to move the country backward.

We as a region, and indeed, the nation as a whole need to more quickly combat the dangers of climate change. Here in NYC, too many are stuck taking forever to commute on polluting, traffic creating busses because the subway is overcrowded and can't get you everywhere. Our state needs these cap and trade reinvestments in our transit infrastructure to curb these dangerous emmissions, improving commute times and air quality. Therefore NYS should formally join this bipartisan plan. Thank you!

We need a strong emissions reduction policy to swiftly reduce our carbon footprint in an attempt to reverse global warming within the next 10 years to a 50% reduction and by 100% by 2050!
Transportation is responsible for 40% of our carbon emissions in the Northeast. Therefore, I request that Massachusetts formally join the plan to reduce emissions in the transportation sector thereby showing a strong commitment to be a leader in fighting global warming. We need investments in clean public transportation, new technologies such as electric cars, trucks, buses, trains and ferries, and a cap and invest policy to incentivize industry to move away from the polluting of our air and water and the warming of our atmosphere caused by CO2 emissions.
Furthermore, I urge you to make sure that any policy formulated will have a strong component of equity by prioritizing CLEAN investments in areas overburdened by pollution as well as prioritizing protection and inclusion for those who do not have access.
I commend the bipartisan nature of this project, with both parties taking the initiative to move us forward on a local basis as a region while the federal government proceeds in the opposite direction with more harvesting, transporting and burning of fossil fuels, including coal, oil, nuclear and gas. We need to do this and we can, with or without federal cooperation and support.

Our transportation system is stuck in the dark ages. Traffic congestion from millions of cars and trucks are polluting our lungs and planet more than ever before. But as we enter this new decade, we have an opportunity modernize how we get from point A to point B. Request that your state formally join the plan to reduce emissions. I very much care about reducing pollution from transportation, that is our largest source of global warming emissions (regionally and nationally), because I have been treating asthma with prescription medications for 25 years now, and it keeps getting worse.

Climate change is one of the greatest problems of our times. Providing efficient tranportation can greatly reduce emissions that harm the environment. This plan is a step in the right direction.
