Based on proven science and more than ten years of experience with a... read more The proposed Transportation and Climate Initiative is absolutely critical to the future quality of life of all Pennsylvanians. Based on proven science and more than ten years of experience with a policy that has helped many eastern states cut power plant pollution and invest in clean energy, the TCI lays out a plan to rebuild and modernize Pennsylvania's transportation systems while reducing emissions of deadly greenhouse gases. The TCI calls for improved public transportation in rural, suburban and urban areas by developing a modern and more resilient transportation structure that would enable Pennsylvania citizens to get around safely and efficiently. Tens of thousands of good jobs would be created, helping to fuel strong, 21st century economic growth. Carbon pollution should be reduced by 25% over the next 12 years. Medical research indicates that public health benefits by 2032 would include reduced asthma attacks, 1,000 fewer premature deaths per year, and $10 billion savings annually in reduced medical bills and other public health benefits. Tragically, fossil fuel proponents have launched a major campaign to oppose this enormously important initiative. Please resist this effort to keep Pennsylvanians mired in dirty air, rising temperatures, bad transportation systems and poor health for decades to come.	-

In as much as our federal government apparently believes that excessive amounts of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere is a good thing, it is incumbent on state governments to take action to reduce the emissions. I am in favor of the TCI states developing a regional transportation policy to address this problem. Responsible government action is desperately needed at the state level in light of the federal government's abysmal environmental record. Thank you.	-

Without this initiative we will have no monetary incentive for users to cut fuel use and little money to incentivize the conversion to electric cars and public transportation. Unless some other major tool is implemented we can expect conversion away from fossil fuel will occur at a glacial pace as it is now. The carbon tax may have been a useful tool but it has a low chance of passage. We should adopt this system as quickly as we can and protect those who truly can not afford the increased price of fuel. It seems like this system can be implemented only if the Governor agrees. If that is the case, Vermont probably will not be able to take advantage of this new tool. We need to have legislative intervention to override the governor so TCI can be implemented in Vermont	-
