According to a recently released study by Harvard and other institutions, if the program is designed appropriately, up to 1100 lives can be saved annually, and the region could see $11 billion in health benefits each year.	-

I taught high school students in Philadelphia who had to have their inhalers with them. I volunteer in an ER in Norristown where patients of all ages have breathing difficulties and need breathing treatments. We need to continue to work on lowering smoking, but we also need to make public transportation affordable and convenient. Lowering the levels of CO2 in the air will make breathing easier for all and lower the number of rage-related incidents in traffic-jammed streets. The climate will be closer to the old normal. Seas will stop swallowing shores. We will have more time to relax and enjoy life.	-

We will need much more low or no carbon mass or public transit to enable Mainers to adapt to a changing ecology. It is tempting for older adults (I am 80) to have only a short term view of the future, but our imagination must take us to fully consider the world our grandchildren and their families will inhabit. An adequate adaptation to climate change must begin now in all phases of our lives.	-

If the taxes can then be invested in public transportation that does not rely on carbon fuels, and serves those who are currently relying on private automobiles, focusing on currently underserved populations, then I believe the TCI will be a success.	-

Mainers cannot afford to fund this or any other programs until our economy improves. This will cripple us as prices for everything will rise as a result. This needs to be reconsidered for Maine.	-

The era of Monsanto ravaging the worlds landscape and fossil fuel smog spewing forth from every industrial power will be an item they speak of with complete bewilderment at how we could allow progress to eclipse our concern and care for the very planet that sustains us.
