For those of us who must work, must commute and have a job that demands we have independent transportation this is an unavoidable reduction in pay in a state that is already nearly unaffordable to live in. We are held hostage by the government that is supposed to serve us, not punish us. By associating the environment in this bill it passed political correctness muster for the ruling party, but it is a shake down plain and simple. |

I demand that the policy has a strong component of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access.
Thank you for the bipartisan nature of this project, moving us forward while the federal government takes us backward. |

With the oldest population and a natural resource based economy we should be doing everything we can to keep our state clean and green. Like many other states our transportation system relies primarily on cars. This iniative would be a chance to provide alternatives, even given the dispersed, rural nature of the state. |

The more we limit pollution from motor fuels, the more jobs we create, the more the economy grows, the healthier our air becomes, and the more lives we save. Pennsylvania should join TCI to fund better transportation infrastructure, reduce traffic, and make my community a cleaner, safer place to live. |

I am concerned that cap and invest is complicated and could be easily tweaked so that it may not truly accomplish these important goals. Are there more direct ways to accomplish this? Also, I think it would be very important to consider how air transportation fits in this plan. I also wonder about the benefits of improved rail systems for people and freight. |

We CAN do this! Without it, it will not be very convincing or compelling to the general populace for the rapid transformation of our means of transportation to a cleaner and brighter future. |

Given the urgency of the hour, we need to make a war-time effort to stop the prolific production of greenhouse gases and CO2 emissions. The fact that our transportation sector is one of the leading causes of this dangerous phenomenon clearly shows us that the reduction of CO2 and PM 2.5 particulates from all forms of internal combustion engine-driven vehicles is vital. The switch of all our public transportation vehicles, be they buses or trucks must be rapidly transformed into all-electric motor propulsion. And we don't have time to wait another 10-20 years! It needs to start now!
We have the technology and funds to do so. The cost to not do so and delay will be far more than if we act now. There are studies abroad that clearly show this. We also need to stop the production and sale of all internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and heavily tax those still on the road. Gas subsidies to the big oil corporations need to end as well. If this were done, we would see a mass shift to electric vehicles by the populace in general, and car manufacturers would either convert to all electric-powered vehicles or cease to exist.
We're talking about the future of human life on this planet, let alone all the non-human species. This is serious, and if we really love our children, and our own well being, but especially the children and grandchildren in our lives, we will take this seriously and be willing to do what it takes to make the change. The sacrifices we are willing to make now will pay large dividens in the near future! |

Transportation is the number one source of climate pollution in the United States. This means it's time to totally reimagine the way that we transport people and goods.
The states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and the city of Washington, D.C., are working on a groundbreaking policy to modernize the transportation sector under the Transportation and Climate Initiative. The draft Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) proposal is a bold and urgently needed step to upgrade the region’s transportation system to be more efficient, more affordable, and less polluting.
A year ago, these jurisdictions set out to develop a plan to fix the region’s transportation problems, which include mind-numbing traffic, outdated infrastructure, delayed and insufficient buses and trains, and dirty vehicles that belch clouds of exhaust while collectively emitting more climate-harming pollution than any other sector—even power plants.
Through an innovative framework that cuts pollution and invests in 21st century transportation solutions, the TCI proposal would ensure today’s broken system isn’t also the region’s future.
In order for this regional plan to work, governors of these states and the mayor of Washington, D.C., must ensure that this transportation plan is bold enough to cut harmful transportation pollution at the scale needed to avert the climate crisis. We need a plan that holds large transportation polluters accountable for the pollution they create and invests in clean transportation solutions including:
• More public transit and electric vehicle infrastructure in rural areas
• Expansion of commuter rail, electric vehicles, and streets in the suburbs that are safe, walkable, and bikeable
• Sustainable and equitable housing near transit and electric bus fleets in urban communities
I believe there are still greater opportunities to reduce transportation pollution and invest in clean solutions than the states’ draft analysis currently assumes. Let's do everything we can to ensure we reduce transportation pollution, science is on our side.
