There are other dirty, polluting uses of the fossil fuels that have a negative effect on our environment, locally as well as globally. Here, we're looking at a possible change in the means of transportation and just how we should cover the costs involved with the changes. These discussions over-look the possibility of 'local', community based vocational endeavors, that would allow members of local communities an option of utilizing employment opportunities in or near their home communities. The addiction we face daily, using fossil fuels to 'commute' to our employment situation, is removed from the equation, when a community based economic opportunity exists. We have worked 'locally', with folks that are interested in a community based, worker-owned business, that can release folks from the 'commute' to earn money to pay bills and raise their families. We have worked with 'low skilled' people and those with limited abilities, to establish a sustainable, clean-energy economy, assembling solar modules, locally ! This effort, with the small funding required for community based economic opportunities, in every town across the State of Maine, would be an example of local 'ingenuity', as well as a way forward toward a future without the fossil fuels that are the problems we face as a world-wide population ! Thank you ! |

It was refused by the voters every time. Can't you get it through your head that MA voters do not want to pay for higher gas nor a climate tax. NH is not far and I will move and take my business to NH. MA continues to rape our wallets. I refuse to go along with this TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. !!!!!!!!! Even though Charlie Faker says it's not a tax. It is !!! And I am against it !!!!! |

There should be no room in a civilized society for air and water to be anything less than pristine, both from a health perspective, and from a quality of life perspective. The fact that transportation pollution disproportionately affects inner-city neighborhoods is just one of many reasons. None of us are untouched by pollution and its effects. The science is clear that man made causes of climate change need to be reversed before they create a permanently non-reversible situation that is untenable. From a personal perspective, my spouse has no options but to drive in heavy stop-and-go traffic two times each day. There are no public means of transportation to travel north and south on Route 128, nor many other routes as well. This directly affects our quality of life, and productive or enjoyable personal time. It also heavily adds to the region's pollution and the effect on the ozone layer.
I appreciate that Governor Baker is in favor of this initiative, and I hope it is the first of many such initiatives to come that will turn back the hands of time to before the productive, but detrimental, industrial age. |

At minimum, this would involve fare-free bus service and commuter train service across the region. An initial study should be performed to determine the revenue required to meet this goal, and the overall cost savings in terms of a comprehensive assessment that includes reduction in fossil fuel use, accidents and deaths, and other undesirable effects of the existing transportation system. |

So how is it that you except people to purchase this electric car for $55,000 and then pay the extra $2,000 for a home charging station to be able to put food on the table or to buy clothes for their child/children? Then when they can't afford to purchase the car you are going to penalize them by raising the gas to $ .20 more a gallon. This is the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard of, this is not the way to help Maine families. |

Over that time my roommates and I have all noticed worsening asthma, worse allergies, and have been getting sick more frequently. Meanwhile, we live 4 miles from downtown Boston and it can still take an hour or more to get there on our failing public transit system. We cannot keep supporting a transportation system that is making us sick and slowing us down.
TCI could be an huge game changer for Massachusetts to reduce emissions and invest in a modern transit system that doesn’t leave people behind. Climate change isn’t slowing down and we don’t have time to wait. Even Republican Governor Charlie Baker sees the huge potential in TCI for his state both economically and environmentally. Pollution has been a market externality for far too long and it’s time to account for the harm it is causing to the planet and our communities.
The transportation sector continues to be one of the highest sources of carbon emissions in the state. Climate scientists are clear that we need radical change to keep the worst of the climate crisis at bay. We need TCI to reduce transportation emissions and use the money it makes to invest in areas overburdened by pollution and lacking access to transportation options. |
