Maine is a mostly rural state, where reliable, cost effective personal transportation is essential. Those of us who live in the rural areas do not have the advantages afforded to densely populated areas, such as walking distance amenities. Grocery stores, doctors, pharmacies and other necessities are a 20 minute or longer drive. We are dependent on affordable gas and heating fuel to live here. The TCI initiative will significantly raise prices for the consumer. Unfortunately, Governor Janet Mills seems unwilling to support the needs and wishes of Maine people. |

I live frugally and with a keen eye to minimizing use of plastics and other waste. We are in a rural area of Maine where personal transportation is essential. There is no public transportation. Maine’s estimated $.17 per gallon increase in gas price, as well as increase in heating oil price, and likely propane as well, will be a critical hardship on middle and low income people. There is no alternative for us.
“In the public debate surrounding this program, especially in the media, confusion exists over whether regulated entities will pass the costs of purchasing allowances onto consumers who buy motor fuels. To be 100% clear, and eliminate any confusion, these costs, and the costs necessary to comply with this program by regulated entities (these costs) *will be reflected in retail motor fuel prices that consumers pay*.” |

CO2 is required for life and taxing fuel for the benefit of the elite is an immoral act akin to genocide.

Less fossil fuels coming into Rhode Island will mean cleaner air and better land use around the Port of Providence. I want better public transportation options for me and my family, a connected, more vibrant community, and the opportunity for economic growth and new jobs. Rural communities need more public transportation options and the current transportation status quo is hurting overburdened communities especially hard. |

I recently returned from Copenhagen, Denmark where Climate Change group think is in full tilt. The skyline is dotted with windmills, the bike paths are as wide as car lanes, there’s a 25% surcharge on all restaurant meals and a 180% tariff on cars all to become “carbon neutral” by 2025. With a population of 750,000 and 1.5 million bicycles, it was amusing to think how riding a bike in winter works out. Better yet, what do they do if they visit a pub at night and have to make it home on icy roads? Do they do make 20 trips to the grocery store per week since their bicycle baskets can only hold so many items? Technology has evolved and lifted billions out of poverty because of carbon fuels. Now, you want our country to go backwards?
No one wants pollution. But, climate change advocates can’t differentiate between pollution and “man-made” global warming which in junk science as well as a power and wealth grab by the global elites. If Thunberg is Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, then the planet is doomed anyway. That’s almost as bad as B. Hussein O. being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The irony of my visit to Scandanavia is that the people love their herring but can’t eat it more than twice a month because the Baltic Sea is so polluted. They can’t do anything about climate change but should be and could be working on cleaning up the sea which is the lifeblood of their economies.
In closing, my eye doctor’s assistant works in Portland, ME but commutes from Oxford county. Increasing the burden on her commute by increasing gasoline taxes to boost government revenues is not only foolish but, if I had the power to do so, I would make it a criminal offense.

First I would not have the money to even trade vehicles. So I am penalized with additional tax expense to even get to my job. Second what happens after most Maine residents finally get there electronic vehicle and the additional tax money dries up ? When do you start taxing the electricity to increase the dollars to the state again? The rural public transportation system is almost non existent, the rail system has been dismantled , do we all have to move to a city to survive. This is a rushed poorly thought out plan that will devastate the Maine economy. All under the feel good idea we will be stopping Global warming. We haven't heard what the additional cost to Global Warming will be to excavate more raw material to produce more batteries for solar power and wind, and the new electronic cars. The grid system will have to be increased to handle the increased electricity use and all the diesel generators that will have to run to keep up with peak demand until the grid is bigger. And lets not forget there is only one supplier I can buy from CMP not sure I want to trust them to do the right thing. Please reconsider this issue it is not good for me or anyone in Maine. No one gains form this initiative. Should this pass I will be considering leaving the state to find a state were my limited income will support me. |

Primarily, I believe we need increased passenger trains and all electric buses and cars. Having let the politics of profit fritter away earlier efforts to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, at this late date we need to do everything we can to both eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and greatly increase carbon sequestration if we are to survive. To reduce emissions without compromising nature's sequestration capabilities, responsibly produced solar, wind and hydro electricity must replace fossil fuels in transportation. |

Also, my husband still works full time as a carpenter and travels up to 60 miles for work in other communities. He has to have a full size truck to carry all his tools. I understand that Governor Mills wants and pledged to reduce the carbon footprint in ME but I don’t think these efforts will help if others surrounding us or the federal government doesn’t fund or try to do it too. I feel that attacking her constituents directly is not good and attacking big business who can afford it should be targeted. It’s hard enough to live in ME and she will be forcing more residents to look for other places to live if more taxes and increases are imposed on us. |

We also need to be investing in the development of solutions to the problems that are behind the climate crisis. And we are just plain out of time. There's no where to go to escape the consequences that we're already beginning to see clearly. It's literally "now or never." |

Although Biddeford and Saco are adding many residential units in formerly vacant mills they are not adequately anticipating the transportation emergency that may result with no clear public transportation adaptations. Extended diesel spewing bus routes will not be enough or good for our environment. Low cost electric shuttles might be an answer in addition to bikeways and pedestrian malls. Alternatives need to be proposed.
