Polluters should pay. In this case, the fossil fuel companies that are buying permits at auction should be required to pay for the environmental and health damages associated with their products.
The cap should start low and drop quickly, in line with the latest science on the necessary pace of climate pollution reductions. |

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and raise much needed revenue to modernize our transportation system on a regional scale and we can’t afford to let it slip by! Massachusetts legislators have shown that they’re concerned about the environment through current commitments to curb emissions, the TCI is the next step to ensuring we truly make a difference. Instead of expanding Logan airport, we should be looking for more innovative ways to cap emissions and curb greenhouse gasses. Please strongly consider joining the TCI. Thank you for your consideration in this matter that affects all of our lives and the planet we all call home. |

The only thing this does is increase the price of gasoline at the pump for the consumer and it’s not going to stop us from driving gasoline vehicles. It’s just another fancy way for the governors of these states to take money from people. You take more money from people, less people can afford your stupid ass electric vehicles. We live in northern states where logging is a huge industry. Increasing the cost of gasoline will have a huge effect on loggers and in turn on lumber. How is it you can say we need more housing and then increase to cost of lumber via the cost of gas? Do y’all even look at the impacts beyond your own dollar signs? I think it’s time to rid ourselves of these thieving state governments for good. |

An increased gas tax was recently repealed just a few short years ago by the voters of Massachusetts. Stop gouging us. I find it incredibly cowardly to foist this upon the citizenry by hiding it behind a collaboration of states efforts to reduce carbon. This is a farce and unconstitutional. If you want to raise the gas tax then propose a bill in the legislature on which each and every elected legislator will have to have their vote recorded and scrutinized by their constituents. |

Hurricanes are NOT increasing in numbers, Tornadoes are NOT increasing, Wildfires are actually at historic lows (check out Australia during the 70’s, FAR worse fires), and warming we've recently had can be TOTALLY explained as oscillations of the AMO and PDO. We are also WELL within historic warming periods of the Minoan, Roman, and Medieval Warming periods. Current warming is nothing new. Recent research into solar cycles shows that solar cycles actually DO EXACTLY correspond to these natural climate cycles (it's the Sun you fool!). By solar cycles, we are about to enter a Minima period of colder temperatures, starting in the mid 20's, that may last up to 200 years of COLDER temperatures. Anthropomorphic global warming (AGW) is a SCAM meant ONLY to provide an excuse for taxation. This is yet another example of this CORRUPT attempt to CREATE an existential threat, all to fund global (and now local) taxation. I completely oppose this attempt at sliding in a tax based on nothing more than political declarations and failed climate models that have NEVER accurately modeled the natural world.
And tell me how many of the AGW climate change predictions have come true? ZERO!
I will vote to unseat Charlie Baker in the next election; I only hope Massachusetts can produce a candidate worthy of my vote.

Thus all ways of reducing fossil fuel use are urgently needed. Improving publicly available mass transit and regional transit systems is an excellent way to do this. In addition, it will make affordable transportation readily available to many more people. I have traveled extensively in other parts of the world, many of which have far better public transit systems then does the United States. The city of Budapest, Hungary is an excellent example. As a city of 2 million people, not wealthy, it has nonetheless built extensive, readily available subway, light rail, and electric bus mass transit that is affordable. Even large cities in India are rapidly developing local and regional affordable mass transit such as light rail systems. Where available they are preferred transport given how difficult it is to drive automobiles. I grew up in the Boston, Massachusetts area and so was used to one of the earliest and most extensive subway and light rail public transit systems in the United States. It is still very effective. |

Richmond has taken one good step forward by developing the Pulse (BRT) system and reconfiguring other bus routes, but we need a regional approach to expand mass transit options and to make biking and walking safer and more pleasant. A denser urban environment that provides commercial options closer to residential areas also reduces travel times and greenhouse gas emissions. |

We are not the stupid latte bunch in metro cities that this might fit. No Mainers work for a living and trucks along with cars are needed to get to those jobs. Thanks for the bipartisan nature of this project, moving us forward while the Federal government takes us backward. |

So we must immediately work to address it, starting with the big stuff, and work our way down. Connecticut’s transportation sector is the biggest single emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the state at 38% of the total. Let’s get on that!
I support a transportation plan that is focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution while investing in sustainable transportation modes. Bus transit, rail, walking, and biking must be improved across the state, especially in cities and town centers.
This transportation plan is also a land use plan, and we must stop investing in a sprawling, unsustainable development model. Future development in the state must be in cities, town centers, and near transit stations.
We should not be investing in expanding interstates. Expanding our interstates in Connecticut both increases emissions in the long term from induced demand and increased driving while putting development pressure on the state’s dwindling forests and farms.
Many cities and towns in the region have shovel-ready plans to improve transit, rail, and active transportation. We must invest in a future with more people on buses, trains, on foot, and riding bicycles. That future includes more transit-oriented development in walkable communities.
Addressing greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles also means immediate health benefits for our most overburdened populations as a result of improved air quality and fewer emissions of localized pollutants responsible for cancer and respiratory and cardiovascular ailments, among other adverse health impacts. |
