TCI Regional Policy Design Stakeholder Submissions

I am concerned about our climate and we need to take immediate action to reduce pollution from transportation, which is our largest source of global warming emissions (regionally and nationally). Virginia must formally join the Transportation and Climate Initiative to reduce emissions. The policy must have a strong component of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access. Our transportation system is stuck in the dark ages. Traffic congestion from millions of cars and trucks are polluting our lungs and planet more than ever before. As we enter this new decade, we have an opportunity to modernize how we get from point A to point B. I appreciate that this plan was created in a bipartisan nature to move us forward while the federal government takes us backward.

We need an enforceable limit on transportation pollution and we need to invest in clean, modern mobility solutions across the region. I hope that Virginia will formally join the plan to reduce emissions. Finally, I appreciate the bipartisan nature of this project, attempting to move us forward while the federal government keeps trying to take us backward.

I have seen maps of the old trolley system that linked every little town in Maine with every other little town. Brilliant! If GM and other companies invested in fossil fuels hadn't taken it upon themselves to eradicate those trolley public transportation systems with the advent of the personal-use automobile, we would be far better off today. If the Koch brothers wren't actively undermining public transportation across the country we'd be far better off.
We need to revitalize our suburbs and rural towns with affordable, clean, renewably sourced public transportation now!
For commuters, students, the elderly, tourists, and everybody else!

As someone highly concerned about climate change and its impact on our planet, I feel we do need to support this. The concept has a lot of flexibility, as I understand it, so that the poor are not overly and unfairly impacted. It will be vital for policy makers to ensure that such is the case. Bottom line, though, is that we must take action ASAP.

We are at the tipping point to save our planet. We need to do everything we can to cut emission. Please act to save out planet!

Governor Baker - shame on you. You are not king, you cannot impose a tax. And even if you were king, the people of Massachusetts have revolted against one in the past, we can do it again. No, No, No to your TCI and this tax.

I'm asking you to design a regional low-carbon transportation policy proposal that would cap and reduce carbon emissions from the combustion of transportation fuels through a cap-and-invest program or other pricing mechanism… [and]… to complete the policy development process within one year, after which each jurisdiction will decide whether to adopt and implement the policy.”

In short, we must realize our future (our children's future and future generations from now) on this earth depends how we caretake the fortunes (natural resources) that we have, and we need to courageously need to work to that end. We can see, along with the input from scientists, that there is no greater and crucial time than now to be the responsible caretakers we need to be. Let's do this. Go TCI!
