As a senior citizen on a fixed income, I am writing in support of the Transportation Climate Initiative currently under review.
Before I retired, I worked in transportation demand management, both as the executive director of a TMA, and as the commuter services contractor for Pfizer. In the latter role, I helped facilitate the implementation of an MBTA pass program to accompany the transition of Pfizer's Cambridge work force from Alewife to Kendall Square.
I am keenly aware of the role of transportation (vis-a-vis greenhouse gas emissions) in the climate crisis and am excited to see TCI come to fruition.
Hopefully, there is enough political will across the board to approve TCI and start planning as soon as possible.

I recommend that the states and Georgetown Climate Center invite Ironbound Community Corporation and the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance to present. At the April 30, 2019 event in Boston and preceding events, we heard comments about the need for environmental justice leaders to be at the table and leading the TCI discussions. To facilitate that vision, I hope that the stakeholder event organizers compensate speakers from environmental justice communities for their time, not just their travel, to participate on May 15.

This comment is in response to the second panel discussion at today's Technical Workshop in Boston that discussed investments that could be made to the transportation system with revenue... read more This comment is in response to the second panel discussion at today's Technical Workshop in Boston that discussed investments that could be made to the transportation system with revenue generated from a TCI program. There were several examples of electrifying the transportation sector as one type of investment that other regions (Quebec, California?) have made with funds from cap and trade programs. While electrifying the transportation sector decreases carbon emissions, so too does a reduction in VMT. Investments in active transportation infrastructure (walking, biking and transit) would not only reduce emissions, but would also make our roads safer for the most vulnerable users. Redesigning our road network to increase options for people to choose safe walking and biking opportunities would complement electrification and provide needed capital funding to make roads safer for all. It will be important to ensure that TCI revenue reinforces related, complementary policies and systems, as well as working to transition our fossil fuel-based transportation system to a more carbon neutral one. |

The transportation sector is a major contributor of carbon emissions that affects American quality of life today but also severely threatens our children’s future. I urge you to commit to reducing emissions and pollution from transportation, and also ensuring the policy has a strong component of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access. I am very worried about our future but also heartened by this bipartisan effort that can hopefully pave the way for continued cooperation and unity on the matters of greatest importance today - climate change and inequity. |

The transportation sector accounts for a third of all carbon emissions so we must make changes to this sector to avert the worst of climate change. We need a plan that holds large transportation polluters accountable for the pollution they create and invests in clean transportation solutions including:
- More public transit and electric vehicle infrastructure in rural areas,
- Expansion of commuter rail, electric vehicles, and streets in the suburbs that are safe, walkable, and bikeable,
- Sustainable and equitable housing near transit and electric bus fleets in urban communities. |

We need to decrease car usage/ownership. Increase ride sharing.
Support electric vehicles in urban areas.
We need to increase population density in urban areas; have more small businesses in neighborhoods; have electric buses.
Can we work toward schedules that would allow more ride sharing or public transport?

We would get rid of our vehicle altogether if it were possible to get bus or train service to various places in roughly 5 hrs driving distance (Portland, ME or Western Mass, for example). Currently our only public transit options depart Burlington at 3am (Greyhound) or 4pm (Megabus), both of which are disruptive to travel plans with small children. Our inability to get to and from other cities within Vermont (except by the commuter buses, which run so infrequently that they are not useful for errand running or partial day outings) is another factor. I would love to see the region develop a more robust public transit system between towns, preferably at hours that are convenient not just for those working a 9-5 job, but to accomodate tourists and traveling families. |

This country is LONG overdue for an overhaul of transportation. Getting between cities in many places in the Northeast is far slower by public transit than by car. This shouldn't be the case. Public transit should be an appealing alternative, not a last resort. If any attempt is going to be made to prevent a climate crisis, it must include a new system of transportation - one that includes enhancing old transit systems and building new ones. |

The more we limit... read more Transportation is the largest source of air pollution in the region, and we need to build a modern, clean, safe, and accessible transportation system for the 21st century. The more we limit pollution from motor fuels, the more jobs we create, the more the economy grows, the healthier our air becomes, and the more lives we save. Florida should join TCI to fund better transportation infrastructure, reduce traffic, and make my community a cleaner, safer place to live.
It is clear that air pollution from cars, trucks, and buses have become a huge detriment to my community’s health. Air pollution has been linked to a variety of health problems, including asthma, heart disease, and lung cancer, and the more ambitious TCI is, the more our community stands to benefit from a cleaner transportation system. I urge Ron DeSantis to join TCI and push it to be as ambitious as possible, for the sake of my community’s health and livelihood. |
