I have cut back my own travel to far away places unless I can go by train and/or bus. I want our leaders to enact legislation that puts an end to the current gas guzzling vehicles and airplanes that we Americans use so carelessly |

Modeled on the successful system for reducing GHG emissions from power plants, this initiative to cap and reduce emissions from transportation fuel combustion is one part of a necessary plan to keep GHG emissions at a livable level. I read many of the comments already submitted and find strong support in heavily populated states such as Maryland, New Jersey, others, but opposition in Maine, where people now must rely on private cars in the absence of transit alternatives. This is where incentives should increase public electric transport and purchase of electric vehicles. Folks, we have a climate crisis here we simply must address. This initiative can be a big part of the solution. Thank you for the proposal. |

Time is of the essence. The TCI is equitable and will take into consideration the frontlines communities in Vermont. It is fair to the fossil fuel companies who will transition to a Cap and Invest program gradually. It allows Vermont to be part of a regional initiative with other NE states and by doing so, will receive monies to help those who most need it. I say "yes" to the TCI.

Too many cars are on the road and far too many single passenger vehicles because America has not made public transportation a priority. In Charlottesville, too many busses run only once an hour, making it impractical to use the bus system. The argument is that not enough people use the bus; if the buses were easy to use, many more people, like myself, would be happy to use them. Bus stops are also difficult to reach. The closest bus stops to my house are half a mile away, or more. I cannot reach two of them because it requires walking along a road with only a very narrow shoulder and no sidewalk. This should be a priority, not new and bigger roads, and more parking lots. |

Once again a permanent gas tax is looming large on the horizon in the guise of “Climate Change” mitigation. Nothing like doing an end run, bypassing the legislative process a la Barack O’Bama. It’s bad enough we have a legislature that is 97% Moonbat, but we have RINO Charlie Baker who also serves at the altar of political correctness and climate change. Needless to say I expected as much from the legislature but am very disappointed with Governor Baker. |

It's not enough for Maine residents, who deserve clean-energy affordable transportation options delivering economic, health, and climate benefits to local communitie
TCI’s bipartisan policy model seems to be effective and proven, so it would make sense for Maine to work with neighboring states using TCI’s model.
Thank you for your attention to this crucial issue,

I demand that the policy has a strong component of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access.
Thank you for the bipartisan nature of this project, moving us forward while the federal government takes us backward. |

It is time to develop an electrified high speed comfortable rail system serving long distance, as well as well connected metropolitan light rails, metro, and electrified bus systems that serve all zip codes. This is allow children to attend school on time, will broaden access to food for underserved communities, and expand access to job opportunities while decongesting roads. Americans spend more than a month yearly behind the wheel. This increases stress, pollution, and decreases family time which is already abysmal compared to other developed countries. |

Little kids are breathing through face masks made to look like elephant faces multiple times a day at home and in school to stay alive. They explain that it feels like drowning when their damaged lungs fail to deliver adequate oxygen due to the pollution from the convenience of using fossil fuels. Our definition of fossil fuel necessity has been smothered by the scientific data that shows how we are destroying our life support systems. Shame on us for complaining that we don't like an additional gas tax. Our first responsibility is to life. We have lost our way as we minimize its fragility and our necessary stewardship. All around us we see the consequences accrue and the death of species; plants, animals and loved ones. My concern is that this legislation is as vetted and as extreme in its effectiveness as is humanly possible. I believe the team assembled and the sponsors behind this initiative are taking their moral role as shapers of our children's futures seriously. I thank you. Sign. Enact. Better our futures. |

The states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and the city of Washington, D.C., are working on a groundbreaking policy to modernize the transportation sector under the Transportation and Climate Initiative.
In order for this regional plan to work, governors of these states and the mayor of Washington, D.C., must ensure that this transportation plan is bold enough to cut harmful transportation pollution at the scale needed to avert the climate crisis. We need a plan that holds large transportation polluters accountable for the pollution they create and invests in clean transportation solutions including:
More public transit and electric vehicle infrastructure in rural areas;
Expansion of commuter rail, electric vehicles, and streets in the suburbs that are safe, walkable, and bikeable; and
Sustainable and equitable housing near transit and electric bus fleets in urban communities.
We need to turn the tide to demonstrate how many people want to see a bold and ambitious plan to cut transportation pollution in their state and in the region.
Thank you for your consideration.
