Reducing emissions in the transportation sector is critical to achieving climate goals previously established in Vermont. Revenues raised from the cap and invest program can be used to help residents access more efficient forms of transportation.TCI is modeled on the very successful RGGI cap and invest program. Regional solutions to transportation pollution will be more effective. The TCI will help to create energy jobs in Vermont. |

We need a plan that holds large transportation polluters accountable for the pollution they create and invests in clean transportation solutions. For example, we need more public transportation and electric vehicle infrastructure in rural areas, and we need charging stations for electric vehicles in urban areas so it becomes feasible for urban apartment dwellers like myself to have an electric car. We also need expansion of commuter rail, electric vehicles, and streets in the suburbs that are safe, walkable, and bikeable. Expansion of bike lanes, wherever feasible and safe, is needed. We need to assure that sustainable and equitable housing are accessible to transit and electric bus fleets in urban communities. |

There is a great of talk and admissions about emissions, (nice turn of phrase, don't you think?) but actually tempering the huge carbon imprint that transportation represents has yet to be tackled. TCI is our starting point and the fear and reality of rising gas prices is a small price to pay to get this transition, upon which our survival rests, started. |

Reducing pollution from transportation is a key component to reducing Pennsylvania's emissions and improving the quality of the air we breathe here. Public transit investments that could be made with TCI proceeds would be valuable to that end.
I would like to see our leaders choose the aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target that the most recent climate science tells us we need. I want to see policy that prioritizes clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don’t have access to transportation choices. Thanks for your consideration. |

First of all, it addresses the main problem our generation must solve for our descendants and the world. We should be willing to spend big to solve it, but I believe that this particular initiative will actually pay for itself, that the structure of TCI will return any increase in fuel prices back to all of us ten-fold – through initiatives that promote low emitting transportation and by helping low income Vermonters – just as RGGI has done. So you need not fear it will damage Vermont's economy. In fact, NOT solving our climate crisis would eventually ruin it entirely. |

I would propose making it a cost to drive recreationally, institute residential parking permits, put idling spots in every neighborhood so the e-economy of having *everything* delivered results in less pollution and traffic issues, upgrade and increase public transportation so it's less unpleasant/unpredictable, mandate regular car care with subsidies for those with lower incomes, make it cheaper not more expensive to get a hybrid/electric car, and create delivery windows for large trucks so they aren't causing constant backlog traffic choking fuel belching pollution fests. |

This must end. Major improvements in mass transit, an ongoing building of bicycle infrastructure, and the electrification of the remained of the sector are all essential to nothing less than survival. TCI is taking the long view that a cap and trade approach will help accomplish this end. Frankly, only draconian measures, at this point, will bring down our carbon input, but this is a good start. Please back this legislation. |

The convergence of three revolutions will be important to encourage in the right direction- ride sharing/bike/car sharing; AVs and EVs. Shuttles/multi-occupancy vehicles that are electric (with an electric grid that is low-carbon) but don't forget autonomous vehicles. Our transit company, Hampton Roads Transit, has trouble finding and keeping drivers, so is keeping an eye on AV technology, as are a lot of other heavy hitters, and the state of Michigan. Michigan is providing grant $ to address mobility and fund solutions (PlanetM.com). This plan will help small businesses with economic recovery post-covid and address the challenges of mobility in a more sustainable way. Grand Rapids has an autonomous vehicle initiative, with a shuttle fleet of AVs from a public-private partnership. Even the little city of Crozet VA I heard has an AV shuttle, made right here in this state. |

To reduce our use of fossil fuels most economists say we need a steadily rising carbon emissions fee (with revenue returned to households). Technology exists now that will allow us to electrify almost all our energy use, including transportation, heating, farming and industry. Most of Vermont”s electricity is already created from wind, water, and solar (and a little bit of cow power). A price signal plus additional incentives will encourage people to make a quick transition to an all-electric, all-renewables world. |

I also have no interest in a heat pump home in New England. I have already seen (and my company has worked on) too many frozen pipes in homes with heat pumps!! This is yet just another freedom being taken away Because someone somewhere has decided this is the only way to save the planet! or is it? i am old enough to remember the ozone layer being destroyed and we were all going to burn up if we didn't do something right away. now these same scientists are back with yet another scare. i'm not saying don't be good stewards of what we have but where is the common sense and balance??
i'm a little company and don't have the power of the environmental lobby groups and electric companies but i will fight this until i am forced out of the state i was born and raised in by people who have just come here to take over!!
don't even get me started on the fact nobody will be able to afford higher taxes - but then, as I've already stated, i guess that's the plan - right:( |

I beg you to join the plan to reduce emissions. The policy must have a strong component of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access. We certainly don't want to have to wear face masks just to breathe like some of our Asian areas need to do! I appreciate the bipartisan nature of this project, moving us forward while the federal government takes us backward. Our current administration is living in the Dark Ages - don't join them, I beg you!!!! |
