The burden climate change places on our communities is steadily worsening. Action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is needed now; we cannot delay any longer. Additionally, communities are suffering from particulate emissions, with negative health effects on all of us but dis-proportionally impacting lower income and minority communities most often located near major roads.
Transportation is the biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Virginia and the region, as well as dangerous particulates. We can best tackle both of these problems by moving to a clean transportation system, and a clean-energy economy. TCI-P will greatly help Virginia and the region do this. It will improve air quality, lower health care costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It will also generate revenue for other environmental initiatives to further accelerate our progress.

My husband and I live on a fixed income, one that cannot absorb a $1.00 increase in gas. We do not have the infrastructure to move away from gas driven vehicles, even if we wanted to. You govern a state that is not 100% left and you need to consider the fact that almost half of the state is conservative and this is an election year.
We do not need to belong to any organization that increase the costs in our daily life without having any direct improvement in the environment, by the way, the US is one of the cleanest countries in the world. Stop this crazy action. |

Electric cars are a wave of the future and beyond. Do not burden other people to pay for your progress. If you can't make it on your own then go back to the drawing board and figure it out without sticking it to someone else. |

Virginia is a state with the majority of residents who must commute to their work places...often that commute is of long distance or of long time because of the huge volume of traffic on roads not designed for the large numbers of vehicles using them. Virginia does not need to be tied to other states who want to tax their residents heavily. This gasoline tax will have negative inpacts on our economy that will hurt our state's businesses...ie tourism etc. People afe having hard times now. This extra tax is not necessary at all. It's in the best interest of all that Virginia NOT join the other states in burdening their constituents with this unnecessary and misguided TAX. |

We need it to be successful! But, as proposed, it is an embarrassment. 1) The claims of on the order of 25% reductions of transportation emissions over 10 years is based, by your own admission, on overly optimistic projections of the effect of other transportation policies. TCI-P itself will have a miniscule effect on transportation emissions. The over-selling of TCI-P is totally transparent and will only lead to effective opposition. 2) The amount of funding produced by TCI-P pales in comparison with the funds that will be needed to address transportation climate emissions in the member states. 3) Limiting transportation fuel price increases to levels that will be undetectable within the normal fluctuations of fuel prices reveals the lack of political will on the part of TCI-P states to step out and lead on climate change. The proposal is an embarrassment from the point of view someone who is rooting for NE states to address climate emissions. It is time for TCI-P participants to look in the mirror and decide if they have the courage to lead at a time when we need honest leadership or if they can, with a clear conscience, continue to sell a failure of leadership with deceptive claims of wonderful results. |
