It is our younger generations who will be experiencing the devastation of our present behavior and inaction, and who will be bearing a cost far greater than the few dollars increase a tank of gas may require. It is not their fault. They are not being apprised as to what is truly happening. It is imperative that a regional low-carbon transportation policy proposal be designed that would cap and reduce carbon emissions from the combustion of transportation fuels through a cap-and-invest program or other pricing mechanism… [and]… to complete the policy development process within one year, after which each jurisdiction will decide whether to adopt and implement the policy. Thank you for attending to this very urgent matter. |

Joining the plan to reduce transportation emissions is an important part of that process. We must protect public health and the environment from the ravages of climate change. We need a strong transportation program that invests in biking, walking, public transportation, and clean/green technologies for all kinds of vehicles. |

Please... read more Connecticut’s largest GHG emitter is the transportation sector. And the state has a goal to reduce GHG by 45% by 2030. Thank you for that. But we can’t do this alone.
Please formally join the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI), which will cap GHG emissions and place a fee on fossil fuel imports in the transportation sector (cap and trade). Fairfield County (in which I live) is in the lowest 5% of counties in the US for air quality. These GHG aren'’t all from Fairfield County emissions…air blows from other states.
Thank you for what you have done thus far, with regards climate change action and the regional design process. Now you must take action to set aggressive GHG emissions caps. I know you will get push-back, but don’t give in. The children of CT are relying on you. In fact, we all are. This is no longer a future problem. The problem is NOW. And I know you realize this.
And please keep equity at the forefront of your mind when you set into action these goals. Too often the less affluent communities are not considered. After all, Bridgeport, the largest and poorest city in CT is also in Fairfield County.

Not only does our transportation system contribute to climate degradation in our state, but it is also set up to exclude the most vulnerable citizens: the poor, the elderly, the disabled and the sick. Elders are isolated and access to healthcare is limited for anyone without a car or truck. Depending on outside contractors, such as Uber and Lyft, will exacerbate the carbon emissions problem and do little to address the needs of more remote citizens. Even in a little city like Waterville, where I live, the population is hardly big enough to make cabbing a viable occupation. Everybody loses in the current system. I wholeheartedly endorse accessible, low carbon, affordable transportation systems in Maine. It will serve businesses and individuals alike, and it's the right thing to do. The future is moving away from fossil fuels. Let's not get any more behind the curve than we already are. |

They are stupider than the people they preach to. Stop taxing us to death. Cut your budgets and live like we have to. A new gas tax added to all the other taxes added to our phone and electric bills is just one more scam on the public. Do not vote for this Governor. You've done enough gouging during your terms. |

Yet the technology exists today to significantly reduce our carbon footprint with clean, green and renewable transportation. Yes, it is true that the initial cost is high, but incentive, rebates, etc can make the price less intimating. Electric trains are a perfect example of cleaner public transit, provided the electricity comes from renewable sources such as solar or wind. If we have better, faster and more convenient ways to get places, people would consider using puvlic transit instead of their own cars.
Climate cahnge is the most important issue of our time and we must include transportation in the ways to reduce the effects of climate change. |

We must ensure low-carbon transportation so that our next generations will be able to live. To do this I am asking that you approve:
- cap on carbon emissions of at least 25% by 2032
-an increase in the minimum investment in overburdened and underserved communities (>35%)
- investments be put towards active transportation like better sidewalks, bicycle infrastructure, and high quality public transit
According to a recently released study by Harvard and other institutions, if the program is designed appropriately, up to 1,100 lives can be saved annually, and the region could see $11 billion in health benefits each year.
Thank you for yout consideration of these requests. |

Green Bonds and loans are becoming a major market. Unfortunately many municipalities and corporations know very little about these financial instruments and the emerging global standards. The initiative should add information sharing on this topic to its existing workshops, especially energy and transportation.
Attached is a rather dated article on De-risking Green Bond Deals written for Environmental Law in New York. This article is being updated with green Muni bonds in mind.
