Currently, many of us rely on the fossil fuel industry to simply move around. For them to use those funds to prevent forward momentum on cleaner transit options is a serious concern that needs to be addressed. The TCI helps us take back some power from corporate interests so that we can actively work to built the transportation and transit systems that we need - not those that are being forced upon us by the fossil fuel industry. We have many Mainers who are home-bound and unable to access services they need, we have trouble finding volunteer drivers for programs to help folks with transportation challenges, we have people commuting in cars who could benefit from reliable transit, and we have folks who are unable to walk or bike close distances because our sidewalks and streets are unsafe for people not in cars. Transit is something that we need to build and invest in before we see it used - we have to build a system that works for people if we expect them to use it. This is an economic development issue that we need to address now so that we can build the state we want in the next 20 years. I encourage the TCI to work with stakeholders from many sectors - health care, regional transportation providers, schools, bicycle and pedestrian advocacy groups, and businesses to help make the case for this important effort. Thank you for taking on this important work! |

Over the years I have been proud of steps the state has taken to address issues promoting the common good, especially when the issues are complicated. Today climate change is clearly one of those issues. It is a situation where working with other states makes total sense. What an opportunity for Maryland to be ahead of the curve, joining 11 others and DC to make a difference. For this reason I am a strong supporter of the The Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI). This is a once in a generation opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and raise much needed revenue to modernize our transportation system on a regional scale.
As a Marylander, I thank Governor Hogan for his leadership in supporting TCI and request that Maryland formally join the program. I want the leaders of the TCI to choose the most aggressive greenhouse gas reduction targets- as current scientific studies show that we need.
I also urge that the policy prioritize clean investments in all of Maryland's communities overburdened by pollution and for those who do not have access to transportation choices.
Thank you for considering this option.
Sincerely,
Joanne Schwarz

As a mom with two young kids, I am increasingly concerned about the impact climate change will have on the potential of their future. I know that the actions we take today will determine if they witness a world that crumbles under the weight of an unstable ecosystem OR a world that meets the challenges we face with innovation and commitment to the common good. The transportation and climate initiative can help move us toward a livable world AT THE SAME TIME it creates jobs, puts money back into the pockets of Maryland residents and saves lives. This is a slam dunk win-win-win for us all. Please make it a reality. |

Denmark nation wide is on schedule to reduce its carbon by 70% by 2030. The Netherlands is close behind, where is Vermont when it come to leading this nation in changing our ancient power producing methods. It is past the time for hesitation move us forward with our neighbors to get this project in place by 2022. Look at GreenIsland DK if you any questions. What kind of business climate could we have if our power costs 70% less. You could say goodbye to tax incentives and have a skilled work force installing Green Power as both Denmark and the Netherlands are doing NOW. Please feel free to contact me regarding Green Island DK as I am in conversation with one of their designers. |

Maryland has to do this if we are serious about meeting our climate change goals. I, personally, have lived without a car and relied on transit, biking, and walking for years. We need to transform our infrastructure to make this easier. If we don't make these kinds of major changes the planet will be simply uninhabitable for future generations. |
