We do not need a gas tax to fix our problems. You need to cut out the bloated payrolls at 2 of your favorite institutions like the RMV and Massdot. You need to quit hiring idiots like Thomas Bowes to expect our problems to go away. They will multiply !! I hope Geoff Diehl will run for governor and bring back some fiscal responsibility to Massachusetts. You seem to have lost interest in what you were voted in to do. Time for you to go. |

Although Biddeford and Saco are adding many residential units in formerly vacant mills they are not adequately anticipating the transportation emergency that may result with no clear public transportation adaptations. Extended diesel spewing bus routes will not be enough or good for our environment. Low cost electric shuttles might be an answer in addition to bikeways and pedestrian malls. Alternatives need to be proposed.

I'm a 24 year old male. I have a good job and I work full time. With that being said even with my partner paying half of our bills we barely have enough pay our bills and save anything to progress our life beyond renting. I know I'm not alone when it comes to these kinds of financial situations, and I'm one of the lucky ones without student loan debts! The cost of living for us young people is already pushing us from the state. If you want the state to flourish we must take care of the young people who will be responsible for it sooner rather than later. We are the ones who suffer inevitably.. I Make over $40,000 a year and I'm struggling I'm not even close to drowning in debt and my friends of which who have student loans have to actually stay with their parents because they cannot afford their bills and their rent. The last thing we need is a higher taxs on gas. All that does if funnel money to the government and does absolutely nothing for the people. If you want to reduce emission (in one of the lowest populated states??) Propose bills that actually have to do with making a change towards a cleaner alternative. Not just something that will widen the gap from us normal people from middle class to the wealthy.

Making taxes higher on working private sector citizens to fight climate change is a waste of our hard earned money as anything we do in Massachusetts to lower CO2 emissions will not create any global impact due to the CO2 emissions of India and China.
TCI is just any other money grab to support the bloated public sectors salaries and defined pensions private sector tax payers do not get with no impact on quality of life. Worse, the legislature will not even vote on it, it is unconstitutional for the governor to simply increase taxes.

I am tired of the "climate change" frauds, climate has never been, is not now and never will be static, it is dynamic.
I remember from the seventies warnings of a new ice age by the nineties.
I also do not want any more of my money to go to the MBTA for anything, including their unfunded pensions. Not my fault, not my problem.
Have you ever wondered why there are so many Mass plates in NH on the weekends?
How can you justify following the same failed policies of California?
Sincerely,
Joe Rochna

I've listened to all the hand wring and false claim of imminent disaster for the last 60 years (from "the Ice Ages is coming, to "the Oceans will flood the world" and "the hurricane will get worse"). None of it has happened. The whole thing is a fabrication based on extrapolations of a chaotic (in the mathematical sense) computer program trying to solve the Navier-Stokes equation for a turbulent boundary layer on a spinning sphere with gravity and variable heat input. The science isn't there yet!
Blaming every thing on the Industrial Revolution ignores the fact the the Little Ice Age ended about 1850 (the last winter carnival on the frozen Thames outside London was 1814). Anyone with a little history would expect the world to get warmer after that.
With out an atmosphere the Earth would have an average temperature like the Moon -- zero degrees F. (This can also be calculated from basic radiant heat transfer.) So we are getting ~60 degrees of global warming from the atmosphere. If CO2 was a major contributor, increasing from 280 ppm to 415ppm (an almost 50% increase) there should be more than a 0.8 Deg C increase.
There is no technical basic for the panic!
I'm all in favor of better, more efficient, safer public transportation! But that means for the most part catching up on all the deferred maintenance.

Now we have our backs to the wall and must take bold, decisive action if we are to have a fighting chance at reversing our current trajectory. Modest measures won't do. Leaders must lead and communicate to their constituents the financial costs of doing too little or nothing, which will be in the billions or trillions of dollars. We CAN shape the future to correct for our past short-sightedness.
