TCI Regional Policy Design Stakeholder Submissions

Maryland should make a make a firm commitment to adopt a regional transportation policy that achieves a minimum 40 percent reduction in transportation sector climate pollution by 2030, to keep us on track to meet the climate goals updated by the General Assembly in 2016.
Investment and policy decisions should be made based on pollution reduction and equity goals, as well as robust engagement opportunities from the public‒particularly those most overburdened by transportation pollution and undeserved by our current transportation system. Maryland can lead the way and be an example for other states. Please make good decisions on our behalf to help fight climate change.

Climate Change is real and must be addressed NOW. The actions and legislation we take today will impact future generations of humans, animals, and plants. We must begin to restore the balance of nature by moving past the "Dark Ages" of fossil fuels. We must "design a regional low-carbon transportation policy proposal that would cap and reduce carbon emissions from the combustion of transportation fuels through a cap-and-invest program or other pricing mechanism" and "complete the policy development process within one year, after which each jurisdiction will decide whether to adopt and implement the policy.” Change is best made at the individual, local, and state levels because we cannot depend upon the federal government to take action. We are stewards of our Earth. And positive changes can be made!

As a physician, I am fully in support of this initiative to reduce greenhouse emissions & invest in public & private transportation that does not emit carbon. The infrastructure to support this can be funded through a cap and invest program. The benefits of “clean” transportation will decrease expenditures in health costs. Recent research reveals a correlation between hospitalizations and deaths attributable to local levels of air pollution. The benefits of this initiative are well beyond just greenhouse emissions.

Reducing pollution from transportation is a key component to reducing New Jersey's emissions.
Public transit investments that could be made with TCI proceeds would be valuable.
Choose the aggressive greenhouse gas reduction target that the most recent climate science tells us we need.
The policy must prioritize clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don’t have access to transportation choices.

I am writing simply to say that I strongly support the Transportation and Climate Initiative because I believe it is an effective and necessary means of reducing carbon emissions and the consequent global warming.

Please support a firm and time boxed commitment to adopt a regional transportation policy that achieves a minimum 40 percent reduction in transportation sector climate pollution by 2030, to keep us on track to meet the climate goals updated by the General Assembly in 2016.
Ensure we mandate that investment and policy decisions be made based on pollution reduction and equity goals, as well as robust engagement opportunities from the public‒particularly those most overburdened by transportation pollution and undeserved by our current transportation system.

I cannot think of a more important issue than taking every path to lower emissions in our very "at risk" State of NJ! Please do whatever is possible to see this is done in the transportation sector of this extremely populated state.
