TCI Regional Policy Design Stakeholder Submissions

I strongly oppose TCI for the following reasons:
1) it is taxation without representation
2) related to above, the manner in which this TAX is being rammed down our throats without the legislature is cowardly and probably unconstitutional.

Since whether or not Vermont joins TCI, Vermonters will pay at least some of the costs, it would seem a no-brainer that we join. Especially if we receive more revenue than we contribute.
I fully agree that a significant portion of the TCI proceeds should go to reducing the energy burdens of Vermonters with low incomes.
That we are the only state in the Northeast to increase greenhouse has emissions since 1990 and that our per capita emissions are the highest in New England, is a disgrace. We must do everything possible to ensure a clean future for our children and grandchildren.

Connecticut’s transportation sector is the biggest single emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the state at 38% of the total. This is a climate crisis, and we must immediately work to address the greatest challenge of our generation.

I support a transportation plan that is focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution while investing in sustainable transportation modes. Bus transit, rail, walking, and biking must be improved across the state, especially in cities and town centers.
This transportation plan is also a land use plan, and we must stop investing in a sprawling, unsustainable development model. Future development in the state must be in cities, town centers, and near transit stations.
We should not be investing in expanding interstates. Expanding our interstates in Connecticut both increases emissions in the long term from induced demand and increased driving while putting development pressure on the state’s dwindling forests and farms.
Many cities and towns in the region have shovel-ready plans to improve transit, rail, and active transportation. We must invest in a future with more people on buses, trains, on foot, and riding bicycles. That future includes more transit-oriented development in walkable communities.
Addressing greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles also means immediate health benefits for our most overburdened populations as a result of improved air quality and fewer emissions of localized pollutants responsible for cancer and respiratory and cardiovascular ailments, among other adverse health impacts.

Low carbon transportation will save our lives as well as getting us where we need to go

We already voted against the gas tax! This is an unconstitutional method to further tax us and take more of our hard-earned money! Stop overspending in this state and start representing the hard-working taxpayers for once.

I grew up in South Jersey where transportation without a car is limited. Since college I have lived in Philadelphia where transportation is plentiful and a car is a luxury and an unnecessary expense. Growing up in rural area I appreciate nature and do not like seeing it degraded by pollution.
Now that the Oil refinery in South Philadelphia is gone we need to think in terms of alternative fuels. I owned a car for less than ten years and got rid of it in 1976. I do not miss it. I walk, ride a bike and SEPTA wherever I need to go. I once worked to limit car use in Delaware under Clinton's ISTEA law. It should still be in effect today.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Shouldn't everyone care about reducing pollution from transportation? This is the largest source of global warming emissions, both regionally and nationally. The Susquehanna Valley's air quality is below what we should expect, and FAR below what it should really be.

I hope that Pennsylvania formally joins the plan to reduce emissions and with the state government's full backing and support. It's my hope that the policy includes a strong component of equity by prioritizing clean investments in areas overburdened by pollution and/or for those who don't have access. I'm grateful for the bipartisan nature of this project, and have sincere belief that this will move us forward, even while the federal government takes us backward.
